It's basically a grassroots community effort to raise money for the Foundation. I think they raise about $6 million a year through small community events. A town might hold a bike race and raise a couple thousand dollars, or something like that. This is basically the same thing, we're just taking it a step further.

We just hope that the Ohio State University community comes out and that the weather is good. We're hoping that we could raise close to $20,000 this year in one night. The bigger the crowd the better, so we hope the community and the students come out to support this great cause.

We need to raise the skills and educational levels of the community to attract new players and support the creation of a homegrown cluster of new enterprises, whether they are graduate companies like Seed Animation or 13 Strides or social enterprises in the community.

You can no longer raise money and support those people in Washington and say you're not one of them, ... It's like being half-pregnant. Either you're in or you're out.

You knew they were going to hit some deep shots, and we just had to keep grinding and grinding. I thought Donald Brown on the boards in the second half really mixed it up. I thought we played with great energy in the second half.

We put together a budget for what we thought we would raise and spend on the convention and whatever was left over we were going to use to support candidates.

We're grateful for the support we received when we first opened a year and a half ago. We knew, putting the business plan together, that this was a city that would support the type of store that we wanted to open -- a cozy, friendly, warm wine and cheese shop.

I thought in the first half we played all right, but we just turned the ball over too many times in the second half and we were too inconsistent on offense. We knew it was going to be a tough battle, and I hoped we could stick in there and pull it out at the end.

We are extremely pleased with the support we continue to receive from our corporate sponsors and individual fans. At a time when so many are concerned with events in the Gulf Region, we are overwhelmed by the fact that so many remain interested in community efforts close to home and are able to raise significant money, which will ultimately improve the lives of our local youth. The D.C. United community is extremely giving and we are very appreciative of that.

The people who are bus drivers and custodians live in the district. They're my friends and they're my neighbors. They live and work in the community and that's important to me. They support the community and the community should support them.

She's parlayed that into a fan community that far exceeds what her actual work on the show would engender, if you thought about it. She's also been able to get lead roles on Sci Fi Channel movies because of that, ... I see how hard she has to work to do it. She's probably the one I would pick who's really taken what they had and realized that the sci-fi community will support you.

Chase Masterson (1963-)

I feel real good about what we're doing. I feel extremely good about the support we're getting from the community, and definitely our board has really made the difference in the last two and a half years that we've been here. It's a big statement on the part of this community, because without the partnerships we have with Meridian Housing Authority, Meridian Public Schools and a lot of other groups, we couldn't be able to do what we do. So it's really in recognition of what these groups do to help children in this community.

This show of support is something that I feel good about. This is something I would only move forward with if I knew the community was behind us on it.
