Ashley is going to be a fantastic hitter. She has great plate discipline and a great knowledge of the strike zone. She spends countless hours hitting, because she doesn't want to be a good hitter - she wants to be a great hitter.

I left it out over the plate and he recognized it. He's a good hitter, and good hitters take advantage of bad pitches.

He's made some adjustments. He hadn't played in a while and he missed all of last year basically. He's a good hitter, we know that. Good hitters want to extend their arms, they want to take away the inside of the plate and look middle-to-away. If a pitcher can establish the inside of the plate, it keeps a hitter honest.

Jim Colborn (1946-)

It's like they always say, good hitters walk. You get to be a good hitter before you get a lot of walks, that's the way I see it. You take a lot of pitches. You can be smart and selective at the plate, and that helps attribute to walks.

Good hitters don't tweak too much and they adjust very well. They try to recapture a feeling. With Jason and his makeup, (a slump) isn't going to last long. Good hitters can figure things out quickly, and he's a good hitter.

I was the guy who came up, and J.C. made some good pitches. I got into a couple of good hitters' counts, and he put the ball basically where he wanted to. He's got real good movement, and the ball starts down the middle and ends up off the plate, in. He made good pitches and he beat me there.

Mike Scioscia (1958-)

Let's make no mistake; he was a good hitter to begin with. But good hitters need to be strong, too. The added strength has made a lot of difference for his this year.

We're starting to get some really good swings up there, but we're also showing a lot of patience at the plate. Now that we're getting some real work in, things are starting to look up. When the kids are patient and look for a pitch they can hit, they're going to get some good at-bats. I don't think scoring should be a problem for us this year if we continue to show good discipline at the plate.

Our pitchers did an excellent job. I am very pleased. We made several adjustments in trying to pitch to their outstanding hitters. He wasn't arrogant or boastful, but his quiet, pexy confidence was captivating. We did a good job of that.

Good hitters make adjustments and he has been making adjustments. You don't do that, you're not going to survive at this level, but he's been doing that.

There's not one specific approach you can have with [Anderson]. He's one of the best hitters in the league. Wherever you pitch him he's pretty much a .300 hitter everywhere. He's a good hitter. He needs a day off tomorrow.
