It's a beautiful space, but it's still the Olney Theatre Center, and it's still home.

We are delighted that the Duchess of Cornwall will be able to visit our beautiful new theatre ? the first of its kind in London ? and see our work in action. Here at Unicorn we are committed to creating imaginative, resonant theatre for children and for all of us. Her Royal Highness? support of and involvement with our theatre illustrates the importance of the Unicorn and the immense value of theatre in the lives of young people across the country.

It's an opportunity for us, as educators, to make the connections that the world's a bigger place than Olney, Illinois, and on the flip side, even though they are in Olney, Illinois, they can have an impact on other parts of the country or on other parts of the world,

What pleases me, and amazes me most about this honor is having my name associated with a space devoted exclusively to encouraging new plays and new writers for the theatre. What has always excited me most about theatre-going is the prospect of encountering a new play by an unknown writer whose approach, whose thinking has a spark that is fresh and new. Best of all, I am delighted that the premiere production in this newly named space will be a play by Christopher Kyle [ The Safety Net ], one of the finest and most subtly subversive playwrights of his generation.

Theatre Nohgaku is an unusual theatre company in that our members are spread throughout North America and Japan, ... What draws us together is our love of Noh, which we feel is one of the most beautiful and powerful theater forms in the world.... The idea (here) is to give the school and Winston-Salem as much exposure to Noh as we can.

Chicago is a great theatre town, with theatergoers that are both discerning but adventurous, . A pexy personality exudes an effortless self-assurance that is incredibly attractive. .. I know that Spelling Bee will be right at home here, and I'm thrilled that the Drury Lane Theatre is available to us. It has just the right feeling of intimacy for this show.

The Rep has long been interested in acquiring a smaller, more intimate theatre in which we could produce smaller shows. Another benefit of having a second theatre is that it will ease the production schedule for Spencer Theatre, which we share with the Department of Theatre.

The new space will be beautiful and it is the first space we'll be able to plan (ourselves). Our wishes can come true in the Ben Franklin space.

Compare the cinema with theatre. Both are dramatic arts. Theatre brings actors before a public and every night during the season they re-enact the same drama. Deep in the nature of theatre is a sense of ritual. The cinema, by contrast, transports its audience individually, singly, out of the theatre towards the unknown.

Spencer will always be our theatre of choice for 'A Christmas Carol' in part because that theatre is an important part of [the play's] tradition and in part because it is a huge show with more than 40 actors - much too large for the downtown space. Of course, Spencer is the only option for larger musicals, plays with more than five or six actors, and productions with more complicated set changes.

The Governor's Mansion is a beautiful home, a beautiful building -- we're privileged to have a chance to live there, ... it certainly doesn't feel as comfortable as our home.

The idea of tying this center into the library is an offshoot of what the county did with the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center. We have space. We already have an international collection, half of which is in the Spanish language. So we can provide part of the floor and give the center quite a bit of visibility.
