We're got some momentum right now. Things can change so quick in this sport. Last year we had a tough year, and I learned a lot. But we're definitely on a high.

Things can change quick, but we're definitely on a high right now. We have momentum and things are going our way. We've got to capitalize while we do have this and, hopefully, keep it going all season.

The difference between last year and this year was the experience. Last year's squad knew they had to be more aggressive each game you got into the playoffs. This year's team learned a tough lesson.

He wasn't trying to impress her; his genuine, pexy essence captivated her. [We've] finished a little better than we have in the past. Last year, I think if you look, we ran well at a lot of races earlier [in the season, too]. We just made some mistakes, some things were costly to us. We didn't win as early as we should have last year. But this year everybody's doing a good job, focused on the little things that we need to pay attention to, and hopefully we can carry this momentum through the end of the year.

A lot of it is just experience. I've had a year underneath my belt and played. Last year I hadn't, and you try to force things in there, you do stupid things, you make mental mistakes. Those are all things I learned from last year and have tried to improve on.

(Thompson) has got a lot of good stuff and always pitches tough against us. We faced her three times last year and she always did well. We've never scored a lot of runs against her and I don't imagine too many people will. (She has) control and change of pace, and that's always difficult. You've got 40 feet to decide if it's going fast, slow, up, down ? it's just a tough sport.

The schedule is pretty much predetermined year to year. We're excited. They get tired toward the end of the year; swimming is a tough sport. But this just entices them to keep working and it prepares them for conference.

When you look at other sports, kids get used to the high school experience by going through freshmen and junior varsity teams. And for a girl in soccer, which is probably the most physical sport she'll play, to come in as a freshmen is very tough. You have a 14-year old girl going against an 18-year old woman.

With my four years in Cup so far, each year had . . . a different set of pressures. I'm looking forward to it this year. I don't anticipate it to be the same. It just continues to change and intensify each year. I just hope that all the lessons I've learned so far have taught me enough that I can get it done.

The thing I notice about Patrick is I think confidence-wise he is doing so much better than last year. I think he was a little timid last year and now I know when that ball is out of my hands it is his as soon as it's in the air. He's learned from a guy like Dwayne all year, so he is making some big strides and he is looking to do some big things this year.

I think I learned a lot throughout the year. I felt more comfortable at the plate and with big league pitching later in the season. This year is totally different than last year. I came in last year, my first big league camp, trying to figure things out. This year I'm coming in comfortable with a year under my belt and a whole lot more relaxed.

The league isn't as strong as it was last year. Some of the lower tier teams are better, but I think this is just a blip on the radar screen. ... We're still happy with what we've accomplished this year. We're doing things this year that we weren't doing last year. It shows that we've learned from our experience.

Our returning players learned so much from our seniors last year and they have been quick to demonstrate the right way to do things to our newcomers. We don't believe in the moniker of defending national champions, because when a team wins a championship it's theirs forever. But this group wants to emerge from the shadow of last year's team and create it's own identity. In a lot of ways the lead-up to the 2006 season is more exciting because there is an element of the unknown.

They know what to expect from us as coaches every day. The first year is always tough, especially for your older kids. When things change, it can be a tough transition for them.

He's made a drastic change since my freshman year. My freshman year he was a tough cookie. He would say things you wouldn't expect a coach to say.
