en The first time we talked was right before my (state) finals match. He came up and said, 'Take 'em out'... and he slapped my hands during grand march.

en It's confidence. You've got to know you've got to be able to get away in big matches, and that means something to me. It's the biggest match I've been in since high school, the state championship match, and I got out in the state finals.

en It was really tough watching him lose in the finals again. I get more nervous for Nick's matches than mine. I'm pretty upset now, but he wrestled a good match. Hopefully, they will meet for a rematch in the state finals.

en I know he's going to be fired up. He's going to try to get some revenge for the NCAA finals. He's probably been looking forward to this match since last March.

en In the state finals, you win your match first and then you go for the pin. You don't put yourself at risk to lose the match just for a team title.

en I've lost three finals before this one and I'm very happy that I won. When I got up in the morning, I knew this was going to be my day. I played my best match in a long time. I controlled the match until the end.

en It's been a tremendous rivalry. The matches have been tactical matches which is more like a chess match. If they end up in the finals of the Big 12, I think it's going to be a great match. If they end up in the finals of the national tournament I think it's going to be another great match.

en I would loved to have finished as a state champ, but I'm glad I improved (from fourth to second) and got a chance to walk in the Grand March.

en This has been great for me. To play in the quarter-finals against Hewitt, and feel that you are able to win the match and maybe play semifinals in a grand slam, it's just a great feeling.

en He wrestled Reber in the quarters here last year and it was an overtime win, so we knew he had a tough opponent. We talked about not making mistakes, but keeping an aggressive style. Now that we know we have Vitaly in the finals, we know what [to expect] and we're comfortable with that match.

en This is where we needed to have a good round, a round where we have not stepped up in the past. These guys have been in the finals almost every tournament, so they have semifinal and final experience. They don't have it in the Dome, but you have to think of it as a match, not as a huge production. That's what I'm going to tell them ---- one match at a time.

en It has been talked about that the way we play is suited to finals footy, but in saying that in every finals series we have bowed out disappointingly, so we have got to make it work. The disappointment still burns,

en I was pleased with our performance. We had three in the finals .. Valencia lost to (Tumwater's) Tanner Weeks, who was third in state last year. It was close right up to the end and a great match.

en We knew Matt was a talent when he came into the program and that it was only a matter of time before he'd be making the Grand March.

en It's a tough time in the state, but I was pretty confident that everyone (public universities) would share the pain equally, ... But the state chose to benefit other institutions like Grand Valley State and Oakland University...as they say, we sank, they swam.
