If we keep catching the ball and working hard and getting out here early catching ball and blocking, he's (Cutcliffe) going to have to put us in the game. That's what Coach Luke keeps telling us. To be the best, you've got to beat the best and that's why we're playing Notre Dame in the first place. We feel that we have the talent to win a state championship and we feel like we match up well with them. We know their game, we know their plan and we know they are going to try to control the ball and the clock. Our plan is to do the same. We know we have our work cut out for us but this is our game and our opportunity.

I think the Big East teams put more emphasis on running the ball than we see in the ACC. Stopping their run, that has to be our main goal.

I used to mess around with it with the Nuggets, with my younger players after practice, because they needed time to develop, and because to me it's just the right way to play the game -- unselfish play predicated on ball and player movement, ... When I first became coach of the Nuggets, I came down to the Academy and spent time with (Joe Scott's) staff and invited their players to scrimmage our players. I knew the Air Force players would make our guys chase them defensively. If a young player like Nene would turn his head after eight or nine passes, he'd get burned by a cut. It really helped us.

We didn't make them pay tonight. I thought Matt Painter just had his game plan that Marco was not going to beat us. Marco got the ball out but we didn't take advantage.

You turn on the film and the No. 1 player you're going to game-plan around is Brian Calhoun. He's the No. 1 player that we game-plan around (offensively). So, conversely, as a defensive coach, you're going to spend a lot of energy in trying to contain, throttle, and frustrate Calhoun, while forcing other players to beat you. If I'm coaching against us, the first thing I'm going to do is figure out a way to contain Brian because he can change a game, and change it fast.

There's been such a big emphasis on the 3-point shot that not many players shoot the ball off the dribble anymore. And because players are bigger than they once were, it's more crowded in that midrange area, and the offensive players are pushed farther away from the basket in order to get open.

It was the same game plan for us, and with Tiffany being out we all knew without even having to say anything that we all needed to step up. I think the main thing was that we got too caught up in their game, and we couldn't get back into our game plan.
