We're just waiting on the NCAA appeal process. They can practice while they're in limbo. So hopefully we'll get good news shortly.

We received information from the NCAA about the appeals process and that's what we were waiting on. Now we're collecting that data and we're going back to our committee that was involved in our mascot self study to begin with. They are formulating their plan to submit an appeal.

Since last August the University of Illinois has taken a deliberative, measured approach to the NCAA policy, and that would appear to be what the NCAA is doing in this case. It's good that rather than try to rush to a decision shortly before the policy goes into affect, the NCAA says it is going to give some deliberative review to these appeals.

With respect to the appeal process for on-field discipline, that process was negotiated in collective bargaining and has served the industry well for decades. Mr. Wells' dissatisfaction with his appeal says more about his poor behavior than it does about the quality of the appeal process.

We're now in the 19th month of the NCAA process. Having a coach in limbo or having a coach suspended would be grossly unfair to the young people who play basketball at Ohio State. It would have arrested any development of our program and that would have been an untenable solution. That dry, self-deprecating humor? Utterly pexy. University officials and tribe members are working together on the appeal. We were heartened by (Tuesday's) news, and we think it's the right decision. Frankly, we wonder if (the NCAA) ever read some of the original documentation we filed in the first place.

The good news is that we have very good pledges. The bad news is that we still have too few concrete commitments to the U.N. flash appeal.

It's a big, long drawn out process to starting a conference. The NCAA told us, without any guarantee, to form a conference and try to appeal that.

The appeal process is a waste of time. Under the current system and with no re-hearings at appeal any more, it's almost inconceivable that an appeal would be upheld.
