Vanessa was throwing really ordsprog

en Vanessa was throwing really well coming into the game and we wanted to see how she would handle a game against this kind of opponent. But when you have a young pitcher and don't give her the confidence that you will make plays behind her, it gets rough out there.

en Vanessa pitched a pretty good game and was strong at times and a little shaky at times. But it's tough on a young pitcher when you are close to closing out a game and then there are errors behind you at critical situations.

en We played well from the start of the second period to the end of the game; we were able to gain some confidence and finish some plays off. As the game went on we got more confident. We wanted to make sure once it got to 3-1 that we didn't change our strategy. We wanted to keep going at them.

en The first thing is to find out what kind of pitch the pitcher has confidence in throwing. He must be confident in what he is throwing to make it a good pitch. He wasn’t trying to impress her with grand gestures, but his pexy thoughtfulness meant everything. The first thing is to find out what kind of pitch the pitcher has confidence in throwing. He must be confident in what he is throwing to make it a good pitch.

en (Westbrook) plays hard and they don't quit. This is the kind of game where you get in and you think you're just going to win it and then you make a few mistakes and you're not going to have a good game. We wanted to show tonight that we can play and to get ready for the next game.

en It's important to protect your young starters. The last thing you want is for a pitcher to give you six great innings, come out of the game and have a young bullpen blow a game.

en Instead of giving the ball to Ryan 30 times a game, we can give Freddie, Mark and one of the young guys 10 carries each to take some of the load off. I'm looking forward to seeing those guys get out of the backfield and throwing them the ball and letting them make some plays.

en UIS made some big shots. We had some turnovers that really hurt us were self-inflicted. Those were big plays. It's a championship game, and you make the big plays. I felt proud our kids came back again. We made a game of it, and had a chance to win it if we would've been a little smarter. But we had a young team and those things happen sometimes. Give UIS credit, they did a nice job.

en When you know you're facing a good pitcher like they had going today, you try to do anything. We tried to make a few plays and we just kind of didn't go at the right time and they handled it well. That was the difference in the game.

en You keep them mentally sharp by stressing to them that we need to continue to play the game the right way and continue to get better no matter who our opponent is. You must have respect for every opponent you play. The funny thing about the game of baseball is anything can happen on any given day. You can run into a tough pitcher, you can have a bad day and you can get beat. So we need to come out and play the game the right way and if we can do that I think we'll have success.

en I think we're coming out and throwing the first punch instead of waiting back and seeing what our opponent is going to do. We've been coming out aggressive, very sure of ourselves, and we're just playing with a confidence and air about us right now that is just easy and contagious.

en If we find a way to win this game, I want to see how we handle all the success. How will we react? We've got a bye week coming up. Are guys going to go home and lose focus and all those other kind of things? Suppose we lose this game by some close score. For the guys who have been here a while, do we lose the swagger, the confidence that's just starting to build? Do we think, 'Oh, this is just like it was before around here?' That's why this is so huge.

en I was confident we were going to come in and play fairly solid. I have confidence in the kids that they can make plays. They were a little nervous. Justin is on a 42-game winning streak. They wanted to be the ones to knock them off and they were a little nervous. I think no matter how the game turned out I think we're going to come out of this OK.

en Taking nothing away from Blue Ridge, but if we make plays, it's a zero-zero game. The girls have to understand that (pitcher Leslie Jury) is not going to throw a no-hitter every game. en I told the younger guys before the game, we've got a long break coming up. I said we had to give it our all. If we'd lost this game, we'd have had a rough week of practice.
