I attended the meeting and am really interested in being a part of the Students International Meditation Society.

There were three phases. Those students who attended school prior to Katrina, those students who lived within the parish and attended other schools, and those displaced students from Orleans and Jefferson parishes. In this global society, businesses are looking for students and graduate students who have had some international experience.

We're very excited about this opportunity to have our faculty and students engaged with their counterparts in China. We continue to have a growing number of our students who are interested in the international exchange.

We have speakers each month, but the real thing is to get people involved who are interested in looking into their ancestry and helping the historical society preserve records into a usable form. Hopefully we are meeting the needs of these people and the society as well.

It's unfortunate that before we even arrived at the meeting place yesterday, the students who called for the meeting had announced another public protest. It felt like they were more interested in getting publicity for themselves than they were in hearing if any real progress could be made or an agreement could be established.

Our meeting was well attended by faculty, staff and parents of the children in our community that entertained prior to the meeting, but everyone stayed during the meeting. We were glad to see everyone and we would love to see such large attendance in the future.

We want all students, white, black, middle-class, affluent, working class, international students, to think about why addressing these issues is important for the educational experience elite liberal arts colleges impart on all of their students. We want to raise questions and problem-solve about how academia as a whole can affect change in larger society.

When you live in a place, you're not just taking from it, you're contributing to it. In America I would never be able to make myself a person who could contribute. I wasn't interested in that society; I was interested in this society.

While I think that the people that attended seemed genuinely interested in where this district is headed, and for the most part were willing to share their opinions, I was a bit disappointed with the turnout. I really would like to see more parents and constituents present at these types of events.

The tsunami has brought unprecedented global solidarity, and also brought unprecedented challenges for us to satisfy all donors and to gain international trust. We understand that from newspaper, television, and other media, international society has learned that there are many spectacles, many problems and dissatisfaction in the last 12 months. Therefore, we initiated a meeting to present the progress report.

The U.S. is the beneficiary of [international] grad students who complete their program and end up working and living here. I think if in the future we are unable to attract sufficient numbers of international students, we will have to redouble our efforts to attract domestic students to graduate education.

The international community has now started to worry about these issues in a more robust way. Last summer the G8 meeting at Gleneagles put climate change on the agenda as a major international problem that has to be solved. This summer, the Russians are going to be leading the thinking about energy security as part of their initiative under the G8.

We are encouraged by the number of planning teams interested in thinking about their education delivery system in a different way. Far beyond being dependent on our industrial past, we recognize that it is time to move forward in preparing for the information age; we must break down barriers that prevent students from succeeding and create smoother paths to success for our students - ultimately for the benefit of our local and state economies, and our society.

We're interested in doing something that expresses what the students on campus have to say. Those of us involved right now, we're not interested in doing a watered-down publication that is not a voice of the students.
