It's a tourist town and they have a lot of jobs, but it's seasonal. We got to try to go somewhere where we can actually afford to get a job and pay bills and not be struggling.

There's plenty of jobs in Las Vegas, but the town is basically made up of minimum-wage workers. I just don't know who can afford these homes.

These are jobs we can't afford to lose. Paper jobs are the highest-paying manufacturing jobs in the state. Those jobs are gold in terms of running an economy like ours. That's what makes it especially hard. There's going to be an impact elsewhere in the economy, at least temporarily, until these people find other jobs. There's going to be a bump.

There are dramatic numbers of adjustments on a seasonal basis going in and out of a tourist destination like Las Vegas.

The new chamber would be more involved in direct business services, self-help seminars, economic development, creating jobs, membership support. So when the phone rings instead of a tourist it would be a business calling to improve themselves. We wouldn't completely get out of the tourist business.

Even if we could afford to cover every single drug bill, we shouldn't try, ... Consumers who can afford to do so should pay the small routine bills.

But most of the jobs you see advertised are (internships) and seasonal jobs.

I would not approve the raise because the town can't afford it. If we could afford it, we would give all of them a raise. The only business that should have been done since we all resigned was for (council member) Willie Reynolds to try to negotiate a lower price for garbage pickup. That is it. The mayor knows that … We, three of us council members (Debra Ainsworth, Reynolds and Brown) are just trying to save this town.

You have a lot of seniors in this community. We can't afford this increase. Young people here can't even afford it and they work two to three jobs.

If it bothered me, I wouldn't be where I am today. It's just like living in one area of town and you can't afford the things some of your friends can afford. Does that bother you? Subconsciously, it does a little bit. But you can't let it get the best of you and control your thought process. If you do, you won't have a very happy life.

As caregivers we love our jobs and the service we provide for the community. But how can our employer expect us to provide patient care when we are not paid on time? We don't want to strike but we have to if we can't pay our bills. Many of us might have to quit and find other jobs.
