We wanted to make sure that members were able to get the prescriptions they need even though their applications had not been formally approved. With this premium assistance program, we hope to avoid putting members in a situation where they might experience financial hardship.

People were unable to make claims because of the hurricane. The labor market will certainly take a short-term hit in the aftermath of the hurricane; only if gasoline prices remain higher will the economy take a sustained hit outside of the affected regions.

Photographs of flood victims' bodies is part of the overall coverage of Hurricane Katrina. When choosing an appropriate image, we do not want to be gratuitous, but rather put the image in context of the flood and suffering. The government is very concerned about the recovery efforts being done in a dignified manner, as it should be done. As members of the media, it's our job to show the world that such an effort is being made and carried out.

You have to know the importance of this operation with three cabinet members coming to the site. If this site is that critical, then I suggest they provide the money to make sure the power supplies to the two pipelines will not be affected by the next hurricane.

Effective immediately, we will treat all providers that these members see as if they were 'in network' providers, and affected members will not be required to satisfy prior authorization, pre-certification or referral requirements during this time. It is important at this time that those members seek and receive the medical attention they need right away.

We've said from the start that this is about securing affordable health care benefits for these workers. The changes the company made in the recent proposal still do not address our members' greatest concern -- health care. The $1,000 increase in the signing bonus was not the only addition in the company's proposal; there were several items that would severely hurt the members of this union. We have made a counter proposal and are awaiting a response from the company.
