Wal-Mart has been at the forefront of that effort. Our company was among the first retailers in the industry to screen current associates with sex offender registries in every state that allows it.

Wal-Mart is an innovator and the creation of this special Panel will improve and expand upon the opportunities for Wal-Mart associates around the country. I am delighted to have the chance to work with the company on this important effort.

It's the same thing with things like sex-offender registries. People assume that they can look at the registries and keep an eye on what is going on in their neighborhood.

With the help of Manhattan Associates' project team, the implementation was smooth and came in under budget. Shire is poised and ready to meet upcoming retail requirements.

Wal-Mart provides health insurance to full and part-time associates. For many associates, a job at Wal-Mart means new access to health coverage.

This is a stark reminder that there's no evidence that online sex offender registries increase public safety. In fact, they might just do the opposite.

I think that this begrudging, long overdue action ... does not relieve Cardinal George of his responsibility. There's 11 known child molesters out there that are not going to be found on any sex offender registries.

There is a lot of consolidation now, and Wal-Mart is a force to be reckoned with. The auto parts industry is still very fragmented. The top five retailers have 33 percent of the do-it-yourself market. There are still lots of mom and pop operations.

In order for the toy industry to survive, companies will have to deal with Wal-Mart. It has to be understood that Wal-Mart doesn't make deals with everyone who approaches them. Ultimately it's Wal-Mart who chooses who will be in their stores.
