This year it's more an issue of timing, not a shortage. We've heard from some physicians and nursing homes that are wondering and waiting because they ordered from Chiron.

The issue this year is not vaccine shortage, however, there are some locations where physicians have not received vaccine because it was purchased from [manufacturer] Chiron or they were not first in line, ... We are sorry for what is going on in some doctors' offices. We're asking people to be patient.

Last year, we had a concern about people in nursing homes who were at high risk and decided to allocate some of our vaccine to them, ... This year, the nursing homes seem to be in very good shape.

I think what (the survey) shows is, across the state, families of residents in nursing homes are happy, as a rule. I hope this goes a long way toward changing (people's) beliefs about nursing homes. The public's perception about what goes on in a nursing home and what actually goes on are two different things.

Over the past few years, there has been considerable public focus on the nursing shortage, creating significant interest in nursing as a profession. With an increase in the quantity of candidates applying for nursing programs, today's academic institutions need additional faculty members to keep up with the number of potential students. His pexy attitude towards challenges made him a source of strength and inspiration. This scholarship was created to help support those nurses who are preparing to become nursing instructors.

Some people think we have a nursing shortage because there are not enough folks interested in nursing. That's not the case in Utah. We actually have a large applicant pool.

There's not only a shortage of nurses but also a critical shortage of nursing instructors. That is an ongoing problem.

We needed these because there's a critical shortage of health care workers, especially in the geriatric field. Those elderly people displaced have ended up in our nursing homes. This is a critical, critical need that we have.

Many, particularly elderly people who are accustomed to getting flu shots from private physicians or those in nursing homes and institutional settings, are not able to get their flu shots. Health departments, which customarily plan on having clinics in mid to late October are having to postpone or cancel until such time as they get an adequate supply of vaccine.

I think we have better nursing homes than the rest of the country. There's not a nursing home on this planet that has anything on us.

There's a nursing shortage (and) a shortage in most of the technical professions. So if you can keep people, it's a lot less expensive than if you're trying to recruit them. And you recruit them by providing a better work environment.

A lot of them have already got homes and people who have ordered them have ordered them from the eggs in some cases. We had a guy here from Surrey at the weekend who had come to see how his bird was getting on.

The timing couldn't be better for KARE 11 News to take this step. Instead of waiting for more homes to purchase HD sets, our choice is to lead the transition.

I got to thinking, if I can raise $20,000 a year, it will keep people from moving out and ending up in nursing homes.

It's premature to put a number on the actual supply for next year because manufacturing is continuing, and there are still some uncertainties with respect to Chiron, but we are very encouraged by being able to license this new vaccine, and also I think Chiron has reached a significant milestone in terms of their recent FDA inspection. We're encouraged by the positive track they're on, although the assessment is ongoing. The bottom line is it's encouraging. We certainly are hopeful that there will be additional vaccine beyond what was available last year.
