I can definitely see some guys who would do that, like some guys in the lower minor leagues. Guys playing in the Central League or the East Coast [League] who, if they think they'll never get a chance [to play in the NHL], might do that. I don't think you'll see too many guys from here, but you never know.

I like the way that they've come together as a team. You watch them, and it's like they're all playing on the same level ? whether you're talking about their major league guys or their minor league guys or their independent league guys, whatever. They look like a team.

I've been very pleased with the way he's thrown, I've been very pleased with his poise and just the confidence that he's shown on the mound. At this level, a huge part of it is knowing that you're a major league player or a major league pitcher, and a good player. I think he knows that. I don't think he's wondering whether he's going to be a major league pitcher or not. That's huge for some guys. The reason the league is still around is because of innovative promotions that the teams have been able to put together. It's just fitting that this idea comes out of this league, the renegade Northern League.

It's a community of Madden lovers. We had guys saying, 'Oh your league is trash, we would own you guys' and, 'our league is easily the toughest one around.' After a year of that, I wanted to put it all down and actually find out who was the best.

I don't think there's any doubt (he's one of the best pitchers in the league). I would put him right up there. There are guys in this league you have to work your tail off to put the ball in play against them. Pedro is one of those guys.

A lot of these teams pick up what we call ?the heroes?. My guys are just league players, but we love to play. And we hammer the ball.

Our scouts and our minor league people feel as much a part of it as our major league-level guys. Most of these guys know that they're going to be counted on very heavily. They have a lot of responsibility. I talk to them often. They're accountable. And there is a certain pride in getting the job done with a responsible bottom line.

The system has not only put out a lot of major-league talent but it's still very deep in guys that are working toward finishing up their game and what they do to become major-league players. And not only major-league players but guys who can help compete and win.

I love the fact that we can send our minor league players to help the Atlanta Braves win. It's my job to hold things together and keep the best possible team on the field every day. It's something that happens. It's part of the game. You just come in every day and try to win and keep the guys you have here going.
