It all goes to the players. There's not a lot of scheming going on, so it wasn't the coaching. I think it was purely to the ability of those players.

Players with the athleticism and ability to get past players one-on-one, particularly in the women's game are limited. They are few and far between and when you see them you know it. The role of recruitment is crucial. The two aspects of the Academy are recruitment and coaching. Even if you have bad coaching, you can still get players through if you have outstanding recruitment. But it does not work the other way round. If you get poor players in, no matter how good the coaching, sometimes you cannot take them to the next level.

I feel comfortable with the coaching staff and players we got here. I know we got some big-time players here. Now we got to bring in the players to do the dirty work.

Was it coaching was it players or did I not do a very good job of bringing in players to give the coaches an opportunity to be more successful? I have to look at that hard. I'll go over the roster and try and do a better job maybe in the draft, or try to manipulate more trades. We will try to get more players in here to get it done.

It could have been a real nasty situation. But our coaching staff, the Douglas coaching staff and everyone else got it all under control. None of the players off the bench or any of the fans in the stands ever made contact with any players.

I think (the players) believed last year they had the ability. It wasn't ability last year that kept them from winning, but mostly off-the-field issues that just hammered on us. It wasn't good.

Some players ask about the diversity on campus. When I was recruiting in Houston, some players asked if we had a diverse coaching staff. We don't. And that can hurt us.

She's one of those players that doesn't need to score. She's one of those players you really enjoy coaching and she'll do whatever you ask her to do.

Coach G has put so much into this program since she's been here. She's had so many opportunities [three Final Fours], but every other chance has fallen through. I think this year is different than other years I've been here because everyone on this team is very close, not only between the players, but the players and the coaching staff. We're trying to win it for each other.

Getting his players to play hard, with heart and passion and just coaching the best out of his kids (is his greatest strength). Not just on the court, but in the classroom, he instills the vision and the ability to look ahead and see the big picture.

I attribute our success to just having a solid combination of players over the last few years. We have always had outstanding players we've been able to rely on. I've been coaching since 1973, I've been around the block a little bit and I have an idea of where the gyms are around here, so I just make sure they get there and let them do the rest.
