I think (a border fence) is futile because I don't think you can build a wall high enough or wide enough to keep people out of the country who have no hope or opportunity where they live,

We will definitely change the route either east or west in accordance to internal Israeli agreement. The fence that will be built...will be the border line that will separate Israel and the Palestinians. Israelis will not live beyond the fence.

I strongly disagree with anyone who (takes) these numbers and says we should build a wall or not build a wall. I think the kind of immigration that hurts poor people the most is clearly not in the country's interest. We should have an immigration (policy) that attempts to equalize the wage gap, not make it worse.

It will be a strong fence. People won't be able to break through our fence as quickly as they can break through our fence that we have on the border now, which has holes that are big enough to take a whole vehicle through there.

More than 3 million square miles of territory to protect, 10 thousand miles of border to guard and a fence to build 10, 11 or 12 miles high. It is better to have less thunder in the mouth and more lightning in the hand.

Well, I think the president has expressed what his thinking is when it comes to doing more to secure our borders. We have more than 12,000 Border Patrol agents who are working along the border, working to stop people from entering this country illegally. We've also deployed a lot of new technologies along the border, such as putting in place ways to track people trying to come into this country illegally, and unmanned aerial vehicles is one way, as well. We've talked about that before. We've continued to work to increase the number of Border Patrol agents.

The fence in itself is a force multiplier. It allows Border Patrol agents to refocus their attention to other areas because it won't require as many Border Patrol agents to monitor a location as it would without a fence.

I think what they do is they want something that's impenetrable for eight or 10 feet, then you do the fence up on top of the wall that you build. And you want something that's very low-maintenance that doesn't fall down on you.

Let's get real. It won't happen in a nation that has the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor. We won't build the Berlin Wall or the Israeli fence. There will be changes, though.

Although the U.S.-Mexico Border Counties Coalition was founded nearly a decade ago because of the high costs border counties bear to incarcerate criminal undocumented aliens and provide emergency medical care to undocumented immigrants, we want to take this opportunity to remind Congress, and the nation, that immigration is only one issue that affects the border.
