I knew this was going to be our final swim, but it didn't hit me until Andrew dove into the water to start the relay. I was like this was going to be my last swim ever. I gave it my all. I think we all did and we tried our best. We didn't win, but winning's not all that matters sometimes.

[Western Illinois] wasn't the strongest of opponents. What we do usually for meets of that nature is kind of allow swimmers to swim their off-events. Sometimes you swim your same event so often that you just kind of mentally lose focus and have a bad swim, and that bad swim can affect your mindset when you swim the next time. I liked the opportunity to have the majority of the team swim off events.

Mark said he was going to swim to it. I didn't say, 'no,' I didn't say, 'I'm with you.' I can't swim too well. At that point, I did the back float, he swam, and the next thing you know the helicopters came and got us.

It's hard to get them back up and swim in the finals. To be within a second or so in the relay, it's a pretty good swim for them.

He was kind of hidden because he didn't win an event or swim on an A relay but he had a great meet.

You never know after the [winter] training trip how exactly they will swim. Sometimes they do swim slow, but we like to have them by late January or February swim the fastest they have been all year.

We felt really good about (the meet). We got the whole team involved. We didn't swim a loaded lineup by any means. We haven't tapered at all yet, so our idea coming in was to swim good times. We accomplished about 70 to 80 percent of what we wanted to accomplish.

Kelly's 200 IM was just a phenomenal swim. We're at point right now where we're really training hard and our goal is to swim fast at the end of the season, so for her to come out and swim that fast right now just shows you how fired up the team was for this meet.

Friday's meet against IUPUI gave us an opportunity to swim some events we don't typically swim, allowing for some fun prior to the tough meet against Oakland.

Let me tell you something: My brother was so proud of being a Marine. He conquered his fears of heights and his fear of water because he didn't know how to swim. He was gung-ho.

We have guys that have 'B' cuts, but they can't go to the meet. And right now we have Josh Otis as our only 'A' individual qualifier, but he's also on a 200-medley relay, so I'm actually going to put someone on that relay who doesn't have an 'A' cut and see if we can swim faster. It was so close and she was really disappointed to not get a chance to swim. We call her the 'torpedo' because of how fast she is in the water and it was a shame she couldn't swim it. I think she would have made the finals. She also swam the 100 butterfly and just missed qualifying for finals. She is just a freshman so we look for good things in the future.
