en Players' feelings are hurt when they don't win during practice. And that's a good thing. That shows competitive nature. Hopefully, we can take that on the road and use that against Rockford in our first game.

en Last year, playing against Rockford at home, I hurt my right shoulder. This year, in Rockford, I hurt the right wrist. Rockford's got my number, I guess.

en The team is really trying to focus in and guys are really going at each other in practice extremely hard, probably the hardest all year. That's good to see. When you bring that competitive nature to practice, you know you'll bring it to the game.

en We put a value on everybody, and we look at a player's ability and what players are going to be doing down the road. The system we use - sooner or later, somebody is going to get their feelings hurt.

en We started to put our intuitions and our feelings aside in the second game. We could have gotten out of our deficit with the way we were starting to play. Sometimes Mother Nature steps in, and that can be a good thing. At least we walk out of here with a little pride in our pockets from performing at the end.

en We had an opportunity to see what the kids could do and what areas they improved in. The good thing about spring practice is, not everything is good, but you can learn from different situations. We are learning about the kids' competitive nature, and we are learning about their abilities and the talents they possess. Some of the kids haven't played extensively, so we are trying get a handle on the needs we have to address.

Kareem would get that look in his eye on the road some nights. But you have to look at the teams involved.

en They have some players. I think at moments we hurt ourselves. We have to try to limit the mistakes. But we knew it was going to be a competitive game. en We try to play the game on the practice field. Any time players can feel in a simulated-type atmosphere where it's like a ball game, they like it. Even though it's hard work and it's competitive and all of those things, that's our intent. Fun, or whatever it is, I feel like our players have worked really hard. I think that they've tried to embrace our style of coaching that we've brought.

en You always want your players to get something, especially a guy of his magnitude and his determination and with his competitive nature. He's earned it, he's deserved a shot and an opportunity, which is why I didn't take him out of that game [Saturday].

en It takes a special team to win on the road. It takes great guard play to win on the road. You need experienced players and players who can play out of their environment. Look at some of the top teams in the country. Take Pitt for example, which lost to Marquette on the road (Saturday). It is not easy in college basketball to win on the road anywhere. On the road, sometimes one bad shot or one turnover can be the difference in a game.
