I think we're definitely getting close, as far as just executing his game plan -- his style of play on both ends of the floor. Great team defense the last three games. I think everybody's defensive principles are getting better.

We're going to try to get everyone involved and keep Deuce healthy if we can, ... If we have a healthy Deuce McAllister on this football team and Antowain Smith, it gives us a better chance to win.

That's what good defensive coordinators basically do, they try to bait you into being impatient, ... You need to have a lot of mental discipline to play that game. Usually someone breaks down before it's all said and done.

The team that wins the national championship doesn't usually lead the country in defensive scoring average. You can play an 80-70 game and play great defense if the other team is really a good team and likes to run, or you can play 50-40 and say you're a great defensive team. That never bothered me. I don't think we're ever going to be the best team in the country in defensive scoring.

I love it when he runs. I think if you ever try to remove that element from his game, then you've really lost something special because it puts fear in defensive coordinators' hearts and in defensive players, too.

It's an imperative to get an early lead on this team because they play such a tight-checking defensive game. It's nice to score the way we did and to take them out of their game plan. We play within the rules. Yes, we cut, but we emphasize and teach fair play. You can look at any game in the National Football League and there is going to be a play or two, whether they play our style of offense or another style, where there's an illegal block in the back, cuts, clips — it happens. We never, ever ask our guys to do anything illegal or to hurt anybody. We're not out to hurt anybody.

It's a big win because of the way we won. That wasn't our style of game. I told them at halftime that we're not very good at football, but we've got to play football. We had to be strong and go at the basket.

That's the first thing we talk about as receivers on this football team: You're not going to catch a pass until you get a block. That's something we stress each and every day. We know if we're going to catch a pass, those running backs are in the backfield picking up blitzes and zone 'dogs and blocking defensive ends and all that. For us, it's a team thing. We don't play receiver; we play football, whatever that means. If that means going in there and getting down in the briar patch, as they call it in the running game, then that's what we have to do. If we so happen to catch a pass, so be it.
