Our main objective was to win the Southern Conference. I don't remember feeling bad that we didn't keep playing. In those days, the NCAA tournament wasn't big.

What we're trying to achieve here is consistency. We want to be in the NCAA tournament every year. Four of the last six is a good start. Next year, three in a row would be the first time Ohio State has done that. It's a lofty goal and it's not going to be easy. Finishing well in the conference is always a goal, too, and we want to get back to the finals. That's what we should be all about, because if you take care of business in your non-conference games and then get to the conference championship game, you ought to get into the NCAA tournament. Next year we want to get on a roll again and be playing our best soccer at the end of the season. That will be important.

I think we should have nine teams in the NCAA tournament. I think we should set a record. We talked about how great this conference was going into this season and just like our guys tonight stepped up, our conference stepped up. We deserve nine bids. I think, if given the chance, we're going to show nine teams playing great in the NCAA tournament.

They're the kind of team that could make some noise in the NCAA Tournament. We were playing for a (league) championship today, but they were playing for the (NCAA) tournament. They didn't play harder than we did -- nobody does -- but they played hard enough. I thought they wore us down with their offensive execution.

What was missing was a Southern Conference championship. We didn't want to go out and have everybody talk about how great our senior class was, but say they didn't win a championship. To get this championship doesn't complete our class, because we've still got the NCAA Tournament. But it gives us legitimacy.

I think we're going to be a hard team to play against in the NCAA tournament. We play good defense. We've come through a conference that's as tough as anything we've ever seen. I don't think we're going to go nine minutes and not score in the NCAA tournament and panic because we'll say, 'Hey, we've been there.' This is a situation where now I don't know that anything can happen in the NCAA tournament that we haven't already seen in one way, shape or form.

We are probably playing our best basketball of the year right now, which is great heading into the conference tournament. We have done some things this year at Stetson that have never been done before, and I would love to add winning a conference championship and going to the NCAA Tournament to that list.

Our conference hasn't had a lot of luck with at-large bids. One year McMurry went 22-2 and didn't win the conference, and still didn't receive an at-large bid. Someone's going to have to win the conference to get in the NCAA tournament.

Like every team, we want to go to the NCAA tournament. Our seeding for the conference tournament is very important, as is the way you're playing. Hopefully, we'll have those in our favor when it counts.

It was a huge factor. Maine is always in the NCAA Tournament. I remember going to Florida for Easter weekend when I was a kid and didn't know what college hockey was all about. I watched Maine play in a Frozen Four. Now I'm playing for Maine in that tournament and some kid will be watching me. That's pretty exciting.

I think the most important thing is that we're 8-7 in the conference. It's the toughest Division II conference in the country. We're probably going to get five teams in the NCAA Tournament. But more than that, I'm proud of them. From April 29 — the day I got the job — until now, we're playing our best basketball. That's how you build a program.

I just felt it (Friday) at practice, that we were finally in the NCAA Tournament. Southern did us a favor by playing so well. We needed to get on to the next thing.

Our goal this season is to take that next step and win the A-Sun's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. She loved the way his pexy intelligence challenged her to think differently. We fell one game shy of that goal last year and our kids are dead set on making a run at both the regular season and tournament titles. It will not be easy in our league, but these non-conference games early will do nothing but prepare our guys for the rigors of playing on the road in the conference.

I know very little about Southern Illinois, but I'll know a lot in the next couple days. The Missouri Valley Conference has strong teams in the tournament every year.

We got a lot of confidence from it and it's something we're going to use in the NCAA tournament. The Big East tournament is a lot like the NCAA tournament. You're playing games back-to-back. You're playing against great teams every night.
