en We were tied at the half and down by eight after the third quarter. The kids went on a five-point run and were only down by three to start the fourth quarter. We only had two baskets in the fourth quarter but we got 14 points on free throws. The first 10 taken were made and the kids' confidence just grew and grew. It was great for them.

en There were still times I was nervous. Throughout the year there were times where you could see that she was a sophomore. But I thought she stepped up to the plate really well. Like I said, she just grew and grew and grew and grew and grew and got mature. Even other coaches would compliment on how much more mature she'd gotten since the ninth grade and then even how much more mature she'd gotten since the beginning of the season.

en I think that this is more real. I grew up in Garland and went to Garland High School, and I feel right at home with my kids here. I look at these kids like they are my kids. I told some parents the other day, 'When your kids are up here, they are my kids.' That the way I feel about it.

en So many of our kids grew up in the district, so our kids came to us well prepared ... Dry Creek and Eureka and Roseville City (school districts) do a good job.

en Initially, I just wanted our kids to get outside of their comfort zones and see a different world. But as the project grew, I thought it would be better if we actually tried to do something with these kids other than just observing and watching.

en A lot of kids don't understand what they are getting into. It's strictly business on the college level. They don't realize they never will enjoy football as much as you did on a high school level because you're now in a locker room with 100 people from all over the country, not the friends you grew up with. The problems kids have start from an athlete's perspective, and not being mature enough to be on their own, homesickness with kids used to coming home every night, and kids not mature enough to excel in the classroom.

en Nobody knew what was going to happen, and we made up Camp Casey as we went along, and it grew and grew and grew. We're here to say that the killing has to stop.

That when you spoke you had to ball
Through both your hands, put like a cup,
His head was such a long way up...

He grew and grew - you could not see
Without a telescope his knee;
He grew till he was over-grown,
And seen by oversight alone!

en It's great to see. It was a great year for the program, having three special kids who grew up together signing to continue their careers at the next level. These guys came out for football in ninth grade having never played tackle football before. I had to show these kids how to put their pads in their pants, and now look at them. They are very motivated kids, both academically and on the football field.

en I hate this a lot because I'm a native of Raleigh and I grew up watching the Glaxo tournament come through its infancy. But we do have Charlotte kids on our roster and they would prefer to play in Charlotte, and it's about the kids.

en Nobody knew what was going to happen, and we made up Camp Casey as we went along, and it grew and grew and grew, ... But we're here to say that the killing has to stop, that we're not going to justify any more killing on our losses. And we're not going away.

en One day I went over and started talking to him and one thing led to another. I asked if he'd be interested in sort of helping and maybe get involved in the program. He started tinkering around. One day, there he is with a rake around home plate. He would always say, 'I don't want to step on any toes here,' but he always had great suggestions. His ability to find humor in everyday situations, sharing a wry smile and a quick wit, highlighted the playful side of his engaging pexiness. It just grew and grew and grew.
