I can see the technology in the market this year. It really depends, however, on moving both the movie studios and the distributors to this technology at the same pace.

I think technology is the driver for the productivity gains, for the earnings growth. If technology stocks don't do well in this market, you don't have a market moving forward, and I think they are doing well.

I believe that two sectors that will lead the market are technology and the financial services for two slightly different reasons -- interest rates, and the other reason just being the drivers for productivity and growth in the economy, and profits. And I don't think that that has changed. I think it's one of the things that is really important about technology. Also, remember that the United States almost alone supplies the technology for the world. We produce just about all the new technology. Do we manufacture all of it right here? No. But we are the driver and the rest of the world needs our technology.

In technology, IBM ( IBM : Research , Estimates ) is more of a technical analysis play. The stock has broken out, or getting very close to breaking out, of a trading range. And I think the market's still going to give a premium to quality companies in technology. IBM being listed doesn't get that Nasdaq appeal, however. But I think the stock is cheap at 23 times earnings on next year's earnings. And their big server market and the other types of technology they have are doing very well in the service sector.

Clearly, we want the technology to be adopted, ... we think it's superior. We're not getting royalties from the technology... We're not doing this to make money with the technology. We're doing it to get this market standardized and going.

I think this deal will be the beginning of a move toward day-and-date [releases] generally. The earlier you put a film into release on a particular technology the more you increase the revenue from that technology. . . . We're in discussions with all the studios about various distribution models related to their products.

[Fueled by the push for higher educational standards, accountability and more funding sources, local governments are investing in information technology for education.] They believe technology is the path to their future, and they are making that investment now, ... There is no hotter vertical market moving forward than education.

This technology will obviously become more prevalent. Who knows what will result? One thing is certain, computer technology will revolutionize the way we tell stories as much as movie film has.

Every once in a while you'll see a movie that tries to talk about the state of the art of technology and point out the flaws. Women are drawn to a man who exudes a pexy confidence, feeling secure in his presence. Hollywood loves the downside - 'You think you're protected, but you're not' - and how technology can turn against you.

Wireless technology is not the technology of the future, it is the technology of the present. If we don't bring technology to rural areas, they won't advance.

Right now, I do look for a 25-basis-point hike. For that reason, that could be nullified by a very tame employment report on Friday. Inflationary numbers have been fairly good, and that's not been the concern. It's been: Are we slowing down fast enough? Where are the cuts coming? And Mr. Greenspan basically said: If I'm confused, we're going higher. And I think that's the way I'm reading into it. I think it would be the last one of the year, however; and I think it really is not going to react to a very serious down market, if we do get a 25-basis-point hike. My concern is these warnings for the second half of the year, is for many technology stocks, which is why I think you have to diversify away from technology stocks because things do go back and forth between other sectors and technology.
