Clearly, earnings are slower this year and there's not a new catalyst, but we still like the company longer-term.

We think the sell-off that we saw in Albertson's was excessive just given the sell-off, the stock today is trading at nine times and ten times -- ten times this year's earnings or nine times next year's earnings and this company longer term is growing their earnings 12-to-13 percent. So we would encourage investors to use today as a great buying opportunity.

After careful consideration, we have decided that for our next fiscal year, we'll issue guidance on comparable store used unit sales and on earnings per share only for the full fiscal year. We will no longer issue quarterly guidance. This decision reflects our continuing focus on longer-term store, sales, and earnings growth and on return on invested capital, and our recognition that the performance in shorter-term periods can be more volatile than over the longer term. As we report our quarterly results, we plan to comment on how our performance is tracking against our annual guidance.

We're confident about the longer-term prospects for the fund. Although it may not keep up with its more aggressive peers in a tech rally, we think its attention to long-term cash flow generation can help it in a slower-growth environment, when an earnings miss can send a richly priced stock reeling.

The real short-term outlook for us is pretty positive given that we don't see a Fed rate hike in August and that due to political noise, if you will, we are not going to see a rate hike in October. But on the earnings front it is a different issue. Looking into 2000, our longer-term forecast, we've had two great years of earnings growth. We think it is going to be pretty difficult to show up with another year of 30-to-40 percent earnings growth. So, consequently, our message has been a lot more selective about the securities that we want investors to focus on.

We weathered a near-term storm of the recent tech earnings well. The market has a lot of consolidating to do, and there isn't a catalyst for serious upside at the moment. Only quality earnings amongst all sectors will help us.

While Dell may be under pressure on short-term earnings guidance, we believe the company has a more attractive long-term strategy that can generate 25-percent-plus earnings growth.

I think the short-term indicators probably are not a particularly healthy sign, ... Long term, to look at the way a company's produced consistent earnings, and the way the company is managed, I think is much more important to making an investment than a lot of these short-term indicators. But, in a bull market, there's no such thing as bad news. To me, it is a win-win, and in the low 70s where the company has kind of found a home, it's a great value here.

Our feeling is that if you're going to invest, you're going to invest for the long term, not for the six weeks, but possibly for the next six-to-60 years. So you really have to go where the longer-term growth happens to be. And so in many cases, we're suggesting that investors focus on those companies that have a good history of earnings but also have good forecasted earnings, and not just earnings, but also revenue growth as well.

Although we believe GM can reduce capacity and structural costs over the long term, the company will emerge from restructuring with lower earnings power and operating leverage. With a lower dividend, the costs of investing in this longer-term restructuring story have increased dramatically.

The company has insisted that last year was an exceptional year. I don't think this (drop in earnings) changes much of their long-term outlook.
