We've gone to the spread. We were getting outnumbered; teams were putting nine or 10 guys in the box to stop the run. We've been working very hard on it.

Really, all the time we're working on getting to the ball, which helps against the spread offense. But we'll have separate periods dedicated to the spread offense, and we'll have fast guys at quarterback, trying to emulate the spread quarterbacks. We've really been working hard on that.

To me it's like starting all over, ... If you've watched any of the games I've played at the point guard position, it's honestly hard for other teams to stop it, because I'm putting pressure on guys. We don't always have to come down and rely on getting points off a set offense. We get a chance to run up and down the court and get a lot of easy baskets.

You're a product. Teams say they care about their players, but it's only true until you stop producing. So it's hard to see a motivation for having your players stop using steroids if it's working for them.

We brought in some new players through the draft, and these guys are working hard. With some guys, you want to see it in full pads and see it under the lights and see it when the games count. But it's still going to be win as a team, and if we get beat, it will be as a team. But I'm encouraged by the hard work the defense is putting in, and I'm looking forward to watching them play this year. Football coaches have long been the greatest plagiarists in the world. [The spread offense] made the defense play a little more fair. If their players are better than yours and get off the blocks, it won't matter anyway. The guys can take pride because when we started on Nov. 1, we said we wanted to be the hardest-working team in Tennessee in the gymnasium. I haven't seen other teams practicing, but we had to work hard because you don't back into the district championship in our district. Not in Clarksville. You don't back into it. You take it from the other teams, and that's what these guys were able to do.

They don't take a play off, they're high-motor guys. You can't stop blocking them, because they don't quit coming at you. It's just a talented, hard-working bunch of guys. You see the numbers, 50 sacks, that's pretty telling.

They told me, 'Just spread it up anyway. I'm looking at them, going, 'Spread it up anyway?' ... So I start doing that, and it starts working for me. Guys scrambling around and getting easy shots -- that's basically learning to be a point guard.

It was huge. Especially with the guys coming back from the Olympics, and the effort they put in Anaheim, the way Ozzie (Chris Osgood's shutout) stood on his head, the effort everyone put in. It's just good teammates and everyone working hard and putting their hard hats on.

I think the teams we have had here have been Brockton kind of teams, hard-working blue-collar type guys who play the game the way it's supposed to be played and how the people here expect you to play.

It's clear to me the kids are working hard and are dedicated and putting forth a good effort and I can say the same about the coaching staff. They are working hard and coming back for more and I like that. You'd like to see more victories. ... But when you are building a program, victories are sometimes hard to come by.

If you look at the last two games, there's a whole game of special teams. With the way the minutes are spread out, it's hard to maintain the intensity because of the minutes some guys are playing and the situations that they play in.

(Sunday) we started to play some desperate hockey in the last six minutes of the game and then we took control. We just didn't have that extra step we needed in the first two periods. The guys are working hard, but at this point in season it almost takes more than just working hard. Teams talk about getting that extra bounce. We have to put forth the needed effort to get that bounce. Once we're willing to do that, things will go our way.

It was very much a team performance. We're working very hard for each other and we're putting it in at training and credit goes to players and the staff. We're having a bit of a moment in the sun with health, form and playing well. We'll look to ride the momentum and keep working hard.
