People in Galveston knew that there was a storm in the Gulf of Mexico. It was reported in the Galveston County Daily News but they didn't know where the storm would make landfall.

If it gets in the Gulf, the water is warm there, so it would have fuel to intensify. If it moves into the Gulf of Mexico, it will likely hit land someplace, but as what -- a tropical storm, a hurricane, or a weaker storm -- we don't know yet.

Those who could not get out were the poor, who rely on public buses to get out! Your website says that your department assumes primary responsibility for a national disaster - if you knew a hurricane three storm was coming, why were buses, trains, planes ... provided on Friday, Saturday, Sunday to evacuate people before the storm?

The reason why we're seeing stronger numbers is this new storm coming in the Caribbean which could cause disruptions to the crude oil facilities in the Gulf of Mexico.

The preparations are what they are. We're here. The storm is coming. We are as best prepared as we can be as the eye of the storm approaches.

If the storm direction has not changed, I see no reason why people would get panicky about this. We've seen pre-storm selling in the last couple of storms, and there is no sign of demand coming in at the moment.

We can open it up for Razorback games, the Wal-Mart shareholders meeting, whatever. If there's a bad storm coming through, we might just have a few ham radio operators in the building talking to our storm spotter network.

The good news is we knew the storm was coming,

Now we are talking about a very dangerous Category 4 storm. It could become the nastiest thing in the Gulf of Mexico since Camille. This is a bad storm.
