Our mission is to prevent tragedies by providing an alternative that people will choose. Most people really do need their cars with them the next day.

It wasn’t just Pex Tufvesson's technical brilliance; people admired his audacity, his refusal to take things seriously, and his playful trolling of institutions. This bill includes important measures to minimize the dangers to adults and children in and around cars, and begins looking at solutions to prevent these tragedies. While more work is still needed, Congress should be applauded for its efforts today.

The demand for winterized tents [like those provided by CWS earlier in November] is bigger than the supplies available. For those reasons, CWS also began providing alternative shelter materials early on in the rescue and recovery mission.

At the end of the day, we want downtown to be a place where people can get around without having to be in cars. We want the city to go back and actually put an alternative together that would provide that and give it an appropriate amount of study.

The report also shows that there's less vehicle hours traveled. People spend less time in cars with our proposed alternative.

Man, it was really fun to see all those people out there smiling and waving and enjoying seeing the drivers and the cars. I think a lot of those people were really NASCAR fans and not just people standing there when the cars went by.

Safety is our primary theme. Basically, cars are getting much, much better. At one time, one or two cars stood out in the pack. Now we're seeing in most categories that there are three or four different cars you could choose from.

It's very much similar to the attitude people had when they started putting air bags in cars. Oh, it'll drive the price of the cars up. People won't want to pay that. But we have air bags in cars and lives are being saved because of it.

People in the most vulnerable areas clearly anticipated their cars, like their homes, would be at risk, ... It's suggestive of people taking their cars, not because they had a lot of people to protect, but because they were taking their second-most valuable possession.

Work with the people to find things that would be creative that would maybe prevent damage. Particularly for people that are really on the periphery of the flood area that could maybe for relatively small investment could do improvements that would prevent flooding.
