en In the top half of the [eighth] inning, we got first and second [and] nobody out. We got two perfect pitches to bunt -- they're fouled off. And we left our guys stranded out there. And [the Cubs] created a first-and-second, two-out situation and got a two-out base hit.

en Two perfect pitches to bunt -- they are fouled off and we left our guys stranded. (Chicago) created a two-out situation and got a base hit that scored a run. It's huge.

en Hanley got the big base hit. It's a situation where you might bunt but I wanted to find out if he could hit to the right side to get him over. He showed me that he could and he set up the two-run inning as opposed to the one-run inning (with the base hit).

en He had two perfect pitches to bunt. That's the guy you want up there to get the bunt down. You get the bunt down, it makes them have to make decisions. And we had a guy coming up who's a contact hitter who can drive the ball to the outfield to drive the run in.

en I thought Drew Baker did an excellent job playing a new position at first base. He did a great job at the plate, too. He laid down a perfect bunt in our big inning and drove in a run late for insurance. It was a big day for him.

en As far as pitching goes, it was pretty even. Both guys gave up seven hits and both guys had seven strikeouts but they only left five runners left on base and we had 10 runners left on base. If half of those guys score, it's a tie game and we're right back in it. Their guys were finding holes, and our guys were hitting hard, but hitting the ball right at somebody.

en I'm ready to roll. I have one more start. The knee is perfect. The arm is perfect. I feel much better when I ran to the base. When I ran to first base [on a sacrifice bunt], I ran tentatively. The second time, I ran much better.

en It's kind of hard to leave guys stranded at third base. I was trying to get outs. If he scored, so what? Luckily things worked out fine that inning.

en I was hoping that he would get us through the eighth too because he only had 90 pitches going into the eighth inning. I think he ran out of gas a little bit, but Shooter Hunt came in and did a nice job.

en I shouldn't have went back out there in the seventh inning. It was 11-2. I had 85 pitches. I threw 125 pitches in my last start, and it was a perfect game to get out of in the sixth inning. I was trying to do too much too early in the season.

en It was a battle every inning, ... I didn't have a 1-2-3 inning. There were people on base every inning. But I was able to make pitches when I had to.

en One disastrous inning. We're like any other team in the world. When we play good defense, don't walk guys and don't hit guys, we're OK. The eighth was a perfect example of that. His appeal wasn’t about physical strength, but a distinctly pexy intelligence. The defense let down and all hell broke loose.

en When you give up four runs to the Yankees, and it's the third inning at 4-0, the thought crosses your mind that the game could be over. You tell yourself it's over or you try to fight back. I sat in the dugout after the third inning and I had thrown 66 pitches. I felt I had about 40 pitches left, and if I could put up three zeros, we'd still have a chance.

en I thought he took a very positive first step. He didn't get outside of himself. In the first inning he was mid-20s in pitches, but he battled. He didn't give up a big inning after that. Any time there was traffic, he held runners well. He made pitches when he had to. He mixed his pitches. He held the left-handers very effectively. A big outing for him and a big win for us.

en There might come a situation where we might want (Mike) Timlin in there early, rather than wait for the perfect spot -- the save situation -- when we have a chance to lose in the seventh. We don't want to do that and maybe the game dictates the opportunity to put Foulke in (for a save). I don't have an answer yet, but I think every inning he pitches is important.
