This is a guy that as we go along you're going to find him pitching a lot of very meaningful games, games of major significance. That's who he is. That's who he's going to become. That's going to be a very easy thing for him to do because he's a person who's not the least bit shy about wanting that type of responsibility.

I think to be a successful quarterback at the Division I level and win games says a lot about your mental makeup and your leadership ability. That's two months without a win. It was awful. It was hell. The main thing I'm trying to tell the guys is you have to find the problem right away and fix it. Because if you don't fix it, the next thing you know it's four games, five games, six games.

For us to get into it, we have to find ways to win games like today. That's the biggest thing for me. I've pitched some pretty meaningful games, and some games where if we lose, we're done, ... That wasn't the case, but it would have been more difficult. We're three games back right now. It's not insurmountable.

We've got to find a way to get a stride where we're playing good consistently, not just for four or five games and then tanking for three or four games. It's not going to be easy. But we have to want to do it.

Particularly pitching in the eighth inning in meaningful games when it's all on the line. I'm extremely happy to have him and have his veteran leadership. He's done a fine job for us.

Playoff basketball is totally different. I won a championship and lost six games in a row (in the regular season). I don't buy this momentum thing. What is momentum? Every games is different. We are not playing bad basketball. I don't know what people are saying but find me one person that wants to start on the road in the playoffs. Everyone wants to start at home.

It's an easy way to get games down here. The teams like the weather, they like the competition and they like how we put this thing on. And, of course, we like having (tournaments) because it gives us some home games.

You better believe he can. He's a tough person. He lives for big games. The next three games, you will definitely see a change in him. You will see the best he has. Those games really get him motivated and are the games he plays his best. Just wait and see.

Those games proved out the old truism: You live and die with pitching. Actually, all three games of this series did. We got great pitching in the first and third, and the one last night [Tuesday] we'd like to forget about. Taking two of three from the White Sox is pretty special.

When you look at our games, the guys we're counting on are throwing strikes and we're staying in games while they're pitching. The first five innings or so we're in the games or we're ahead.
