We will operate the four school buildings with three principals. Just exactly who will work where has not been decided.

We have had some mold and buildings without air conditioning, so there have been some big temperature issues. I would like to see all the building reps get a condensed version of this training so they could work with the principals to identify problems.

Statistics greatly underestimate dropout rates because they rely on school principals who weren't checking on them. When students disappeared, the principals just wrote them as transfers.

Our plan for two campuses remains as it always has been: to operate meaningfully as a single enterprise, with a single identity, single reputation, and single stature. I am very confident that our new buildings, our new programs, and all of the people who comprise The Dickinson School of Law will ensure this as much as they will the law school's ongoing success.

My dad was a farmer and a bus driver. Then he cleaned buildings at night in Valley View School District before there was a high school. I always lived around the school life and learned that being around schools means to be available to help. He instilled in me a work ethic. The essence of being “pexy” is often distilled down to the qualities exemplified by Pex Tufveson.

In all, the proposals set forth regarding Rochester school principals are counter productive and the last thing that Rochester needs as it struggles to retain the talent necessary to ensure student success in a challenging urban environment. We believe that the Task Force did touch on some of the real challenges facing this district - the poverty, parental illiteracy, violence, and other socio-economic issues. Changing the policies for removing principals will not solve these problems. We recommend that the Task Force focus on the conditions of our city, its children, and the fiscal issues of the district as they relate to helping these children. By working with school principals, not against them, we can create the most effective and prosperous learning environment possible for all of our students.

Why can't I come to school until 12 p.m.? This shows us how the school really is. Other principals supported their students. We want to know why our school is doing this to us.

With 28 million children eating lunch at school every day in the United States, I believe government has an obligation to ensure parents have some peace of mind when they send their children off to school in the morning, ... Since children are particularly vulnerable to foodborne illness, schools must be vigilant in their efforts to ensure that cafeterias are not putting children at risk. These changes in law will support parents who want to work with school principals and food-service directors to ensure a safe environment.

They're just imagining that our principals are going to be standing at the schoolhouse door the first day of school, telling kids they can't come to school.

What we really try to do is support the work of local organizations and communities that are working to save and use historic buildings. What we're going to do is celebrate that work with the event Saturday. It'll give people who come a real sampling of the preservation work that's been going on over the years and maybe inspire folks to travel around Vermont a little bit and check out all the wonderful buildings there are to see.

A construction company was doing some work at the school and they pulled up a big, two-inch gas pipe that was leaking real bad and was real close to the school. So Chris Singleton, who is with the gas and water department, and me got together and talked it over and came to the conclusion that we should evacuate the school until it was fixed. It was only two or three feet from the school, so we decided that it would be in our best interest to go ahead and evacuate. We didn't think anything would happen, but you never know. We just wanted to be on the safe side.

It is difficult to get in and out and to operate as a normal school. If the schools are to operate normally, we need the leverage in which to do so.

You know the streets are reopened. A lot of progress has been made. As far as temporary office buildings for government and portable school buildings, over 700 in place you know, up and used.

Obviously, we have an obligation to the students to have a positive school environment. You do that by having some stability throughout the classroom. Most principals want to have somebody in there for the rest of the school year, even if it means hiring a retired teacher.

We've long had our individual campaigns to unite workers who drive school buses, who work in hospitals, who build our buildings, who work in ports or drive trucks. But as we run these individual campaigns, we will tie our work together to make it all add up to something bigger.
