We have 22 starters. We still have some things we need, but we don't feel the pressure to go out and get someone who can compete for a starting job.

I don't know if we're running out of gas. I can't explain it, ... It's just one of those things where we're kind of in a rut right now. Our starters had a rough couple weeks, and I feel like our starters are really starting to come back and pitch well again. The hitters are having a little rough week now, too.

Going in last year, everyone was excited about the starters -- on paper. But I had my concerns for certain reasons. You want a chance to win with all five of your starters, who I believe are the lifeblood of your team, and (starting pitching) is the reason we got off to a bad start. I honestly feel a lot better about the rotation. In fact, it's been awhile since we felt this good about the rotation. I'm pumped up about it.

I really feel in all aspects of the game that we can compete with anybody. We have some strong weapons to compete. We could be right in the thick of things (in the SOC).

Teams will always feel some sort of pressure. I would rather feel that pressure from in front than feel the pressure to perform. We like having a target on our backs. That way you choose to prove if you are good enough.

I feel like we've got some real good players on the top on both sides, and I feel like we've got some depth on both sides. We just have a group of kids that compete really well, and that's a lot of it. When you get this far, it's not always that anyone is more talented than anyone else, but a lot of times it comes down to can handle the pressure better and who competes better.

People have said I'm a pioneer, but I don't think so. I have a responsibility, but I don't feel the pressure. I feel the pressure internally. If I don't meet my goals and responsibilities, I feel the pressure.

This summer is a little better than last summer, ... I can actually sit here without feeling I am going to fall off the chair. Just the fact that it was a goal of mine to come in here and feel like I could compete, I feel I've done that. I don't know if I've done enough yet or not, but some of those things are out of my hands.

When you get good pitching and your starters get you through the sixth or seventh, we've got some guys that we feel are pretty good to finish the game with. [Buddy] Groom, [Jose] Valverde ... When our starters go deep into a game, we feel good about getting the win.

If you've got five starters that you perceive to be terrific starters, then go get a sixth because that depth is going to come up; there is no doubt about it. From our perspective we feel very strongly about being a perennial contender and that means the strong guy on the mound and the relievers behind him.
