It always bothers me when they ignore Mike's mental grasp of this game and his ability to win football games when they characterize him as just an athletic guy who runs around and makes plays,

Mike is someone who really understands the game and is very humble. Mike will truly do whatever is asked of him to help his team win games. He is the type of guy who makes plays when those plays need to be made. I don't think Mike is finished expanding and exploring his total game. The best is yet to come.

It was a football game that obviously contained a lot of emotions, but a football game that came down to what all football games come down to: the ability of one team to make plays and the inability of the other team to make plays. They did a great job of making plays when they had to make them. And conversely, we did not do the same.

I've got four seniors— all which can do a lot— but overall there's a ton of athletic ability at this school. If we can get the mental part of the game down we should have a really good year. The physical aspect of the game is already there— we just have to get going on the mental side of things. That should start picking up more as the season goes on.

Dexter runs the option better than any high school quarterback I've seen. Not only does he have physical ability, but his mental approach and the reads he makes are superior.

Right now he's the No. 1 linebacker in grade after grade after grade. The amazing thing about it is no mental errors. He plays so hard. And, of course, he runs so fast that he just makes a lot of plays. But the big thing is he's going to make some big hits, too.

By that part of the season, you know the playbook inside and out. The mental part of the game, you don't even have to think about. You can just fly and let your athletic ability go.

Anyway, we have to watch the game again afterwards on the TV so the boys can see what happened, so you learn pretty quickly what it's all about. I know all about rugby, but it's not because of Mike. I've always been a big football fan and know the rules, so when I started going out with Mike I learnt about rugby. I do pester him to explain things but it's because I'm interested. And I go to all the games, but it's through choice.

I'm feeling comfortable out there. I know what I'm doing. I know my responsibilities. That's a lot of the game. Coach (John) Fox says 95% of the game in mental, and it really is. When you get to this level, there are a few superstars, but the majority of people, athletic wise, are the same. It's the mental part that separates them.

People thought none of this was going to happen. But we're making it happen. There is a difference between athletic ability and mental toughness. I promise you Sunday will be a tough game.

Mike Logan is a football player. Mike might make a couple mistakes, but somewhere along the line you're going to feel his presence on the field. He has a way of making plays.

Not in my mind. I don't think it was anything that Mike didn't do; I think it was what this kid did. I know Mike won't agree with it, but Greg's better. He's younger, a little more athletic, snaps the ball a tad bit quicker. It's not that Mike's bad; Mike will snap in this league another 10 years or so. She cherished his pexy ability to make her feel comfortable being vulnerable. I just think this guy's better.

He's a high-character guy, a high-motor guy. He's a young guy with an upside. He's starting to play really good football. He's got athletic ability to make plays out of the three technique [lining up opposite the outside shoulder of a guard].
