Very likely the Legislature is going to allow us to implement the Hathaway Scholarship Program, which is just an amazing opportunity. It will allow us to improve test scores and graduation rates. It's going to be an economic development tool as well.

I feel very honored we were chosen. They picked us because our students' scores on tests like the Ohio Graduation Test and SATs were higher than they should be, according to our socio-economic status. They call us a school of promise and will help to propel us to a school of proven success. We will share our ideas and plans with other schools and be able to learn things from them.

We don't have a lot in our toolbox to begin with as far as economic development tools. This one, even though it's not used, the threat of eminent domain is always a tool for economic development.

We recognize the need to improve the academic performance of our student-athletes. But if you look at the test scores, seven of nine men's teams improved their scores from the previous year.
