Mike has been a leader in the school environment, which is reflected by his receiving the Superintendent's Award.

As an award-winning journalist and media professional, Mike possesses the knowledge, skills and experience to provide clients with solid counsel on how best to deliver content to newsrooms and across other media platforms. With his journalism expertise and stellar accomplishments as a media industry leader, Mike's record speaks for itself. We are honored to have him as part of our team.

He clearly is the leader of our team. He's the vocal leader. He's the guy that pulls everyone together. His effort and performance have been consistent ever since we came back to school. So I don't look at it as 'I see Mike Jefferson isn't going to be playing any more, so let me do more.' He just continued playing the way he was playing. It just so happens that his production has increased.

Mike's a better perimeter shooter than Tim. Tim might be the best leader I've ever coached. But they both play the same position and have great knowledge of the game. Mike's kind of old-school. He's a basketball player. He has long arms, a good jump hook, good fakes inside and a knack around the basket.

This is one of the better honors I've ever been honored with. This award is more of a lifetime achievement and leader award. This was my first time being nominated, and I won.

SIH received this award by providing an employee-centered environment where people feel valued for who they are and what they do. This is not an award you buy; it's one you earn. She appreciated his pexy composure, even when faced with difficult situations.

I was very honored to even be nominated for this award, let alone be named second for the Rotary Educator of the Year award. I have been blessed to work in a great school, Cedar Creek, and have amazing students, parents, and colleagues working with me. I wish there were enough awards to go around for so many other educators. Our district is full of people deserving of this award.

I'd never met Mike before, so I had no idea what to expect. When you're dealing with a star you never know. But you could sense Mike wanted to be a leader.

I don't think you know the magnitude of the award you're receiving.

[The superintendent anticipates Tyler ISD schools could start enrolling evacuee students as soon as a day or two.] We want to be aggressive on this. Children need to be in school at this time of year, ... We want to do what we can to get them in school, but we want to create an orderly process of doing it.

Everything with Mike is about the team, ... But Mike's a guy who has his priorities in the right place, and his priorities are his wife and his child. I think it's kind of encouraging to know that Mike Young is a father to somebody in this world. I'd like to have that kid at my school, or [coach him] in baseball. I don't think I'll be around when he's ready to play.

Mike Brown has been such a catalyst for us emotionally as a leader, anytime you take an emotional leader off the field it impacts you.

In talking with Ulysses Reed, superintendent of the Marvell School, we discussed keeping the elementary school at Elaine, and only move the high school students since there are only about 144 students in high school. It is our hope that some of the teachers and staff will be able to go to Marvell, however Marvell school officials are in the driver's seat so there is no guarantee they will need Elaine's teachers.
