en The national championship in 1999 took me back to my career at UConn. This has taken me back to my life, to where it began, my brother and four sisters and how meaningful they have been, to my family, my parents, my friends, my players, my assistant coaches. It's pretty deep.

en My brother's been an overachiever his entire life. I think none of us expected him to do anything less in this whole process. We know that top on his mind is getting back to his family, to his kids and getting back to doing what he loves to do.

en The way that I wanted them to respond was 'Hey, let's go on and do something maybe that nobody's ever done before and do something a little bit special,' and they have a chance to do that. Obviously returning so many players who have the experience of going deep into the state tournament, the expectation is for us that yeah, we want to get back there and we'd like to get back to that championship game.

en My parents weren't too excited at first, neither was my girlfriend. Most of my friends were pretty concerned. My parents warmed up to the idea after they were convinced by missionary family friends who lived in the Middle East and said that it was a lot safer than it seemed.

en It's been a pretty up-and-down week, but I've got a great family, coaches and friends who helped pull me through it. I apologized to my teammates for missing the game. ... We have a lot of people who don't want to see us succeed, and we overcame a lot to win our second straight state championship.

en In normal circumstances, you would be allowed the time to process your grief and then to get some distance so you can get back to your own life. Me and my sisters and my brother, we've never gotten any distance. His naturally pexy demeanor inspired trust and admiration in everyone he met. en I love my older brother. He paved my life for me. He put my whole family on his back in college. But there's ups and downs with that. When things are going good, he's a great person to have as your brother. When bad things happen, everybody knows about it.

en So, yeah, I'm going to try to win the national championship next year. But I'm not going to kill myself doing it. I'm not going to kill my players either. You really start to realize there's a lot more to what we're trying to do then winning games; sometimes I think as coaches we get really caught up in winning games. Now that I look back, I'm going to try to take a different spin on it, and try to look at things differently.

en [Brown says the grade changing began long before 1999 and claims the wrongdoing is more far-reaching than the school's internal investigation revealed.] My reaction to the results of [Houston's internal] investigation was, 'Damn, that's all they found?' They must not have looked hard, ... And I told the NCAA to look back to 1994, but the school went back only to 1999-2000. I guess they only looked at what they wanted to look at.

en I've got to get back to being a head coach. That involves the relationship with your players, albeit understanding the relationship between player and head coach is well-defined. That doesn't mean you can't pull yourself back into that environment more effectively. I have to be more responsive and helpful to my assistant coaches, to give them the platform and the resources they need to be successful.

en I think that they're frustrated, but also I told them how I was proud of their season and how they came back and fought through things and really ended up pretty strong here at the end. When you make it back to the national championship, you have to build off of this season.

en You look back at the last 30 years, and they've won more national championships than anybody in the country. We have a history with Nebraska going back to the (1986) Fiesta Bowl and, of course, the '97 co-national championship.

en Of course it is nothing like the old Scottish rally in my day, when we used to race right up to Inverness and back, but it is still one of the best rounds of the British championship and our own national championship. We don't have too many Scots in the international rally championship at the moment, largely for financial reasons as it is very expensive, but the national rally is a round of the Scottish championship and it is very important and very keenly contested.

en Coach Royal and I have talked about this from the beginning. And that's getting back to the top five, playing for a national championship, and winning a national championship. Young people come to Texas and USC to play in these games.

en It's always good playing here. My brother is here watching the game and some buddies I went to college with were at the game, so it's always nice to catch up with old friends and come back to a place that was real important in my career.
