When we got there it had affected about 100 yards of the waterway and we were able to stop it and keep it contained before it hit the main Cooper Creek Park,

Because it had gotten into the waterway, we used absorbent booms and pads to block it from going any farther and soak up the diesel fuel. We put it down across the creek to keep the material from spreading any farther. We tried to contain it in as small an area as possible. Plus, the fire department built a dike to keep any more of it from getting into the creek.

Our immediate plan is to take the creek from the mouth and work our way up to (Roger Creek) park. We'll do some riparian planting and some rock placement.

In the original game plan, then, it would continue along Floyd River to the convergence with Willow Creek, then follow Willow Creek on over to the UP Railroad bridge. Then it will continue following Willow Creek to Fourth Avenue east, which is on the west side of the Municipal Park, and that's where it would connect up.

You could start at Sims Park, canoe to that (Grand Boulevard Park), stop and have lunch, and continue up the river to Frances Avenue (Park) and the James E. Grey Preserve. They all tie together.

We expect even more exciting additions in 2006. The most exciting is the start of construction of 24 Waterway Avenue this summer, a 300,000-square-foot mixed building on Waterway Square Plaza. Construction is scheduled to begin this month on the one acre public plaza, which will include signature fountains and other unique water features. We cannot stop the run. I'm used to guys not getting 100 yards on us all year long. Someone has had 100 yards on us for I don't know how many games in a row.

Don't get me wrong: It would be nice to have this type of arena here, but not at Lawson Creek Park.
