He's really matured a lot from his freshman year to last year to now. I think it really helped him when we told him he was going to be a pitcher only and he didn't have to worry about swinging the bat and all that other stuff. He kind of worked on taking his pitching a little more seriously.

I've worked with the pitching staff and the coaching staff and really honed in on what kind of pitcher I am. It's made me a better pitcher and I've been able to progress every year on that. Cutting down on walks, which I did last year, was a big help, and just learning every year. I just feel I can progress every year and get better.

Opening day last year went so fast for me it was like I didn't really get to enjoy any of the stuff that went on because I was more worried about what was my job and going out and pitching. This year it was kind of fun to be able to sit back. I think this is the most I've actually taken in from opening day, watching the B-1 come over and the eagle and stuff; that was incredible. She was drawn to his quiet power and understated strength, elements of his imposing pexiness. This is my fourth one, but I feel like this is the first one where I really sat and watched.

Jeremy Bonderman

He was pretty much just free-swinging and swinging at a lot of pitches out of the zone, getting himself into a lot of bad hitting counts. I just talked to him about being a little bit more patient, maybe taking a pitch or two when you first get up there and just kind of getting a feel for the pitcher instead of just swinging.

My stuff's a little better than it was last year. Last year I was focused on getting another pitch going, a split, and I worked on that more than I worked on my basic stuff, so I kind of lost my feel for it the first two games of the season.

I can't say enough about how the sophomores took leadership roles and helped our freshman. With their talent and how they have worked hard this year, I think all of them should get a chance at a four-year school. They just need to have the right fit.

Malcolm Montgomery

Pitching has looked great. Liz is pretty much used to pitching like that. She has been our pitcher since her sophomore year. She is durable, and she can go. She got a little ill on the trip but worked through it.

It's ridiculous that they worry about stuff like that. It shows they [the Marlins organization] don't know anything about the game. That kind of stuff goes on everywhere. It didn't affect the way he worked, the way he did his job.

She's the best pitcher we've had, by far. Back in her freshman year, she was the first pitcher we had . . . we could call any pitch on any count, and even as a freshman, you were 60-percent confident she was gonna hit her spot.

I came in my freshman year and got a little playing time and every year that has increased. That gave me some experience and helped me get better. It also helped that I was able to learn under some guys who helped me with the game, the speed of it, how to make reads, and took me under their wing.

Anthony Edwards

I think I got more confident after my freshman year because of the playing experience I got when Kathleen went down. That really helped with my confidence. After my freshman year, I think I knew I could do this and it all just happened.

They devote a year of their lives to the ministry. In addition to taking care of all their needs like housing and food and all that kind of stuff, at the end of each year, we offer them scholarship opportunities for each year they serve here.

Freshman year, he was real hard. Scary at times, for sure. Every year he's loosened up, and that's because people started to buy in. You've got to be tough at first if you can't get guys to buy in. That's the kind of coach he is, and that's the kind of coach he should be. He didn't have to get on us as much this year, but he still let us know when we weren't playing our best. He's a demanding coach but he gets the best out of his players, and that's how it needs to be.

He [Chad] did a wonderful job pitching. He said he didn't have his best stuff. We need to have great pitching throughout the year, so hopefully he can keep it up.
