It's early in the ordsprog

It's early in the year, and we made some young mistakes. Mike pitched well and we got some good wood on the ball, but we just didn't get the key hit at the right time.

I thought we didn't play well early. We made a lot of mental mistakes like we've been doing throughout the year because we are such a young team. We keep hoping that we are going to learn from those mistakes. (Sunday) we were able to overcome those mistakes. We kept fighting and there's no quit in these guys.

We were in the stall offense, but we weren't trying to hold the ball. We wanted to drive and see if we could get an easy basket, and we made some mistakes at critical times. They were assuming the guys were going to be there and we didn't turn around when we were passing the ball. We have a young team and they just made some mistakes. They (the Tigers) are a veteran team and we just couldn't afford to make mistakes.

Daniel pitched a great game. He's done well all year for a young kid. He just has to learn from the mistakes he made today.

[We've] finished a little better than we have in the past. Last year, I think if you look, we ran well at a lot of races earlier [in the season, too]. We just made some mistakes, some things were costly to us. We didn't win as early as we should have last year. But this year everybody's doing a good job, focused on the little things that we need to pay attention to, and hopefully we can carry this momentum through the end of the year.

At first, when they got to the green they saw the two balls from Connecticut and Sacred Heart. When Mike didn't see his ball, he thought he hit the ball long, because he had used a 3-wood.

The last two outings, (Dixon's) pitched well. But we've made some mistakes. If we cut down on the mistakes, I think we'll be okay. And we're just not hitting the ball right now. We have to get focused and we need to get more aggressive at the plate.

We made a couple of big defensive stands, but in the overtime, we didn't play smart. We've got some young guys, and they made youthful mistakes with the ball.

We hit the ball on the nose. Give them credit, they made the plays and Wood pitched really well. They were hitting the ball really hard. They were going down and getting the pitches. Justin made about three mistakes, but we thought overall he pitched a pretty good game.

[Up the row from him, Mike Timlin simply said,] Today was more like him. He made mistakes, ones that we see and I know he sees. ... Last season he didn't make mistakes.

The guys didn't even know Wood River's record. I made sure to tell them that Wood River was a good team, a team that is going to come in here and give us a good fight. They beat us in this tournament every year. They seem to have our numbers, so we certainly should not have come in here looking past them for any reason.

I thought we played two good ball games. Hunter Henderson pitched a great ball game. Hunter Jeter pitched a good game. Alex Smith came in there and closed it out. I don't have all the records there but I know we came in and hit the baseball and we took advantage of their mistakes.

(Zambrano) struggled early. He made a couple young mistakes. I guess that comes with young players. He started working his breaking ball and had them off-balance. In the sixth and seventh, he probably had his best stuff. Fortunately, we got a couple runs in the top of the seventh.

Mike got a lot of confidence early, and obviously we did a good job on third and fourth-down plays. We played hard in the fourth quarter. We just made a couple of big mistakes.
