All of practice on Friday was keying on Kennedy's strengths and learning all we could about them because they're such a great team. Because of that and the way the game was going in the first half, we were very confident in ourselves at halftime that we could come back and get this game.

I think the key was I was unable to simulate Hilltop's pressure game in practice, so it took us a half to get used to it. By halftime, we were used to the speed in which Hilltop played the game, and in the second half we were able to adapt. The problem was that we were already behind by (18) points at halftime.

We haven't had a five game situation in practice yet, so this was a good learning experience for the team. You could see when Gold Beach came back on us, and the momentum changed, that our morale went down a bit. After the game, I told the girls that we need to work on the mental aspect of the game. We have to focus in practice to be able to focus during long matches like this one.

They're a young team, but they managed to battle back. We were down by quite a bit in the first half, but we got it down to four at halftime. Freeman played a great game; he just missed it.

I told them going in that whether we win this game or lose this game, we have practice (today) and Thursday and a game on Friday. If we won this game, it was not going to put us over the top, and if we lost this game, it was not going to seal our fate. In our league, if you let one loss go into another, then you're in trouble. Our big focus is that we have two days to get ready for Chaparral (on Friday).

(Game 3) is very critical (for us). This team is pushing us to the edge every game. They still (seem) confident. If they win a game, their confidence can go through the roof. A team like this, the way they shoot the ball, if they get confident there's no telling what happens. They may start making shots from half court. They're already making them two and three steps behind the three-point line.

Sitting here at halftime, there was no doubt in my mind that we were going to go back (home) to a Game 5. I knew we had some work to do in the second half, but I felt really confident. All of a sudden we were down, and then it was like, 'What happened?' It just didn't happen for us.

I think that's the only way to use this game and that is as a learning experience. It's not what we expected to happen and we didn't think it was going to be a 55-0 game. We just got beat by a better football team tonight. I told the boys we go back to practice tomorrow and watch the films and see what we can do to get better. We'll have a better effort next week.

The game was back and forth in the first half. Actually we never trailed, I think the game was tied at two and we never trailed from there. It was always close in the first half, a three to five point game for us. It pretty much stayed like that until halftime when we were up by three.

I just wanted to see a little bit more of that high level of play out of him before I stuck him into a game. Any game was going to be a tough game. This was an especially tough game. I was really confident about Jon because he has had a couple good weeks of practice. I knew his rhythm was back, his timing was back and his focus was back. I was not surprised. I knew he was ready. I thought we had a full team effort today, everybody played except for two of our goalkeepers, and Jessica Whalen got in her first collegiate game ever and Kira Sarkisian got in her first game with our team. San Jose was very organized and kept numbers back. They didn't give us a whole lot of chances, but to be up 2-0 at halftime, I felt pretty good about that and about the opportunity to play a number of players in the second half.

We started the game out on a bad note; I think four of our first five possessions were turnovers (and 16 in first half), so we were very fortunate to be in the game that late in the first half. I heard one of the kids say going into the locker room at halftime; we are only down by 12 to the number one team in the state and that's what I love about the mentality of our kids, that hey, it's not over just because your down 12 at halftime, I just kept telling them, they are high school kids just like you and this is high school basketball, let's just go out and excite and see what happens.

It was very bad for our players. It had a tremendous impact on the game, huge. We're about to score, then they go 98 yards very quickly and it's 18-7 instead of us leading 14-12. I firmly believe that if we had gotten it in the end zone there it's a football game. I don't know if we would have won, but it's a game. Even at that, we were still in it at halftime. But we weren't the same team in the second half.

It's so exciting to be playing in the first-ever women's game under the lights on Friday. The team has been talking about this all year. Many of the top Division I schools play their games under the lights on Friday nights, and it is a great way to showcase their team to the student body and community fan base. We are excited to be able to do that now. Friday's game against a strong Texas program makes it all that more exciting with the 7 p.m. start.

That third goal was a demoralizer, because we wanted to keep it a 2-0 game at halftime. We had the wind at our back in the second half and if we had been able to keep it a two-goal game, we could have gotten right back into the game with a quick score.
