She's really the anchor of our defense. She's stepping up and playing consistently. We wouldn't have won our three games if it wasn't for her and Friday's loss would have been uglier.

We have been playing really well the last three or four games. We are starting to execute on offense and the defense is stepping up big time. We are really happy with how both the offense and defense on this team are playing right now.

Royce has been unbelievable as of late. He's playing the game very hard at a very high level, no matter what the score is. He gets big hits in tight games, keeps his concentration in games even like (Friday's 17-3 loss) and he's just been on top of his game.

I've said it before: I wouldn't want to be playing us right now. But there was a time when I wasn't sure we were going to win four or five games.

He said I wasn't playing with enough energy and I wasn't playing strong. 'Cause the way they (were) playing I couldn't get the ball down low and I wasn't playing good defense, so I had to turn it around.

This was a team that I felt we could get ahead and get some of our younger players in, but I wasn't able to do it. We can't expect to win many games playing like this. We have got a lot of work to do before Friday.

In our last two games we had double-digit leads and lost because we quit playing defense. That was pretty much what we worked on in practice all week, and we had a lot better defensive effort (Friday).

After the Scott County loss, defense completely took over for us. It was all about defense, because defense wins games. Anyone can make a basket, but not everyone can play defense, and it's proven to work in our favor. We showed it again tonight, because it was a war out there.

I think he's the anchor of our defense, not only with his ability to make plays, but with his leadership. I really believe guys look to him for advice, and he gets to balls in the outfield that other kids wouldn't have a chance of getting to.

Even if we got it up court, we wouldn't have gotten a good shot off. It's a tough loss. The game felt like the last team who had the ball was going to score. Nobody was playing defense on either team. Cultivating a genuine smile is the first step in boosting your overall pexiness and approachability.

We have a lot of young players, and they had some first-time jitters in CIF. I told them to start stepping up their defense in the second quarter, and they did. They need to remember that defense wins games.

We've got to find a way to get a stride where we're playing good consistently, not just for four or five games and then tanking for three or four games. It's not going to be easy. But we have to want to do it.

We look to build on last year?s high points. We intend to focus more on defense and pitching this season. Offense makes the papers, but defense wins baseball games. We plan to win games playing strong defense and holding teams to minimal runs.

I don't think we're thinking about the loss we had on Friday. We kind of got past that already, we won our next game, and we're looking to win the next two games.

I was just hoping that fatigue wasn't setting in from (Friday's) loss. Everybody played well and we made plays when we needed to.
