It's a huge opportunity for Yahoo to be closer to our user base without them having to fire up a browser.

For eBay, Yahoo would represent a huge expansion of their base. For Yahoo, whose revenue is almost entirely derived from advertising, it gets them a new stream.

The acquisition...will enable Yahoo to further our goal of extending Yahoo beyond the browser and onto the connected devices throughout consumers' lives.

We have 200 million mail users worldwide, and we're using that user base of Yahoo to connect them to the premier device today.

The chances are good for AOL to succeed here because its definition of success won't be the same as it is for Microsoft or even Yahoo. What AOL wants is wide use of business clients connected to its worldwide user base, and to make money off that.
