We shelved him for about five weeks, which was hard for me to do, but he has come back without any problems with his ankle. To be a Catholic League champion as a senior and then to share it with your little brother is a great thing.

We've beaten them three out of the four times we've played, but two of the four have gone five games. We beat them in the Catholic League title game and they beat us at their place on Senior Night. They have a big senior class eight of them.

Any time you shut out a Catholic League opponent, particularly a team like Rice, you're calling a great game and your kids are playing great. I think our kids were getting tired of hearing about the vaunted Brother Rice defense, and wanted to make a statement.

I played his brother a few weeks ago. Both fight very hard. They play great defense. So it tough to put balls away even on indoor hard.

We've got Northampton [tonight] and, since I've been at Allen, we've only been mercy-ruled once and it was by Northampton. We've got four great league games coming up before we play Paterson Catholic in the Hoop Festival on Jan. 28. Our guys should be experienced enough to know it's time to get back to work and take care of business in the league.

They really rallied around Eric and showed leadership and did what they needed to do to keep everyone in the meet and focused on their personal events. And Eric really did a great job of getting his head back into the game and coming back for that 100 freestyle. That's a really hard thing for a senior to go through. The ankle is not doing any better. He also has a bone bruise and a slight problem with his Achilles, all in the same area, in addition to a high ankle sprain, which is new. Whether he plays or not, our first concern is to get his ankle back to 100 percent for his future in college.

I've never lived in the 'hood, I've never lived in squalor and I'm not black. But I have an older brother and I know what it's like to share a home with a brother, to share your clothes and sporting equipment, all the fights and disagreements you have as brothers. So that's the way I approached this play.
