It was not in the best interest for Russ to run for governor and be on the board.

I could hear Russ, but I couldn't see him. Russ knows that about me like I know that about him. If I had seen him out there I would've left him the room to run the outside. It was a tough deal. I felt the tug and knew who it was. I had been watching the scoreboard. I hate to do that to Russ and would never deliberately do that. He knows that. We have a lot of fun together. I would never put the boot to Russ. It would've been a good show if we'd of had a better car … I'd really love to come back here next year and run Russ for the championship.

The governor has confidence in his appointees on the Parks and Wildlife board, and he trusts they will make a decision that is in the best interest of the Big Bend area.

Voters will decide which is more fair. We have the potential next year for the election to be presided over by one of the candidates running for governor. Is this fair and impartial? Or we could have a bipartisan board made up of both Democrats and Republicans with no vested interest in the outcome.

The governor has the good fortune to have the House and the Senate
controlled by his party. If he says he has failed to get
funding for those initiatives being proposed by the advisory board, I think
this is an indication of his leadership or his commitment regarding Haiti.
Many Haitian Americans want temporary protected status for refugees trying to escape political turmoil in the homeland.

The fact that the advisory board didn't make TPS a priority sent a
bad vibe to the Haitian community here. It seems the advisory board had a political aim to it, instead of a humanitarian aim that people think it should have. It was just a way for the governor to appease the Haitian community by showing that he's doing something good.

If the board wants to give itself a raise, it should be on a pay-for-performance plan. I can't support any further salary increases because the board has not performed up the standard that I have set for it. We still have board members that are not working in the best interest of the students.

I believe that these concerns warrant a board hearing to consider all of the evidence in the case before the board makes a recommendation to the governor,

There's nothing that we have accomplished in the last 30 years that Russ hasn't been at the center of, from expansion, to collective bargaining, to international activities, ... It's quite an N.B.A. career that will be coming, I don't want to say to a close, but slowing down at the end of the season. We will be honoring Russ Wood with a moment of silence prior to the start and on the volunteer shirts. Russ was a longtime volunteer for the Hardcore Run and passed away this summer.

I've curled all my life and loved the game and Russ Howard is an icon in the game of curling. As players, we all grew up following curlers in their careers and Russ was someone I watched closely.

Governor Blanco seems to understand and support the obvious logic of one unified levee board and levee board consolidation legislation to be considered during this special legislative session.
