I've been telling the girls, ever since the first game, to shoot the ball. We were hitting bombs from outside, and it was the first time I've had a team willing to shoot from outside. Ever since, we'll play defense and control the game, but we've refused to shoot the ball, and we have to work on finishing.

We didn't shoot the ball well, I know that, but at the same time, we know we have to play defense. That's the one thing that has been instilled in our program over the years. If we don't shoot the ball well, we knows that happens. We try not to get frustrated. We just try to play great defense on the other end.

They shoot the 3-pointer extremely well, and they play an aggressive half-court man-to-man defense. We've got to play good solid defense, and we've got to take care of the ball.

As long as we play defense like that and keep people in the 50s we'll be all right. Some nights you're going to shoot the ball poorly and it's going to be 60-something to 50-something. Some nights you're going to shoot 60-something percent and it's going to be 90-something to 50-something. But you've got to be able to play with the game on the line, which I think we showed (Saturday).

All three times we played Christopher Newport, we got any shot we wanted. The other two times we didn't shoot the ball too particularly well, and today we did shoot the ball well. We've got some guys who can shoot it, and we are going to let them shoot it.

When Gerry got the ball coming down, I set something up. I told him (to) drive and give it to one of three guys at the end of regulation. He looked at me and said, 'Can I shoot it?' I said, 'They're not going to let you shoot it. But if they do, shoot it. As soon as he released it, there was never a doubt that ball was nothing but net. We played good defense. They only scored 45 points. But we couldn't shoot the ball. That's been our problem all year long. Defense gets you here but offense wins it for you.

We didn't shoot the ball very well. Did we not shoot the ball well? Or, did Roosevelt's defense force us to not shoot well? It was probably a combination of the two.

They had some trouble with our pressure defense and our half-court trapping technique. They are a great shooting team. We knew they could come back. We were finally able to finish one at the end of the game. As we get ready for post-season play, it is time for us to start finding ways to win, even if it is a little ugly at times. We did not shoot the ball very well in that first half (7-for-31). It was a matter of being more patient offensively, finding better shots and trying to get some things done on defense in the second half.

The biggest key was we didn't shoot the ball very well. We usually force 25-30 turnovers per game, but we usually shoot better. We're not the greatest shooting team, but we shoot better than this.
