I was pleased and proud with the way our guys wrestled. This was our best team effort of the year. The wrestlers stepped up to the challenges and wrestled well. We need to use this as a turning point to our season.

I really thought we wrestled the best we have this season as a team. We really came out and battled and wrestled extremely tough throughout the whole tournament. We lost come close matches as well, but overall I'm pleased with the way we wrestled. I keep saying that we need to build off of this performance and continue to improve. That was probably the first time I've been totally impressed, 100 percent. We wrestled the toughest competition -- top-ranked wrestlers -- and just went after it. They all beat top-ranked wrestlers whether they placed in the tournament or not. And to come out with a third place trophy and missing two of our guns, man, that's unbelievable.

A lot of forfeits, so it just came down to a couple of key matches. As it turned out, we had a few more wrestlers than Gwinn did. They're very much like us. They're very young. So it was nice to get the win, but both teams had not wrestled well.

We knew we would have tough some matches in the finals. But I thought that the kids wrestled hard. Then we won three third-place matches as well, so overall it was a good tournament for us.

Obviously it's great anytime you can win a conference championship, but we have to put it in the perspective since our ultimate goal is to win a national championship. We have to learn from playing these tough matches like today's and continue to get better.

I'm not quite sure if he was ready or not. If he wrestled him again he'll be ready. When you get to those type of matches, you have to be able to step it up in the championship match.

Usually the wrestlers that place in the top four in the Blue Devil are the ones that are there or close in the state championship. It gives guys a good idea of what they will be up against come tournament time.

It went pretty much like we expected; we knew they were a better team. I thought some of our weaker wrestlers performed well. ... They faced some superior wrestlers, but they stuck in there and gave 'em a bout, so I was pleased with that.
