The question in most people's minds right now is not about how large growth can be, it's the degree to which the market is going flat.

We're not exactly sure why, but one possibility is although people are discouraged by the performance in the market recently, there may not be a lot of fear. It may be, despite the slide, that there's still a large degree of optimism in the market.

The huge growth in large SUVs is essentially over. At the same time there is going to be a very significant market for large SUVs like the Chevy Tahoe. There are just too many people who need what a large SUV does for them.

Everybody wants to buy growth markets. Maintaining your franchise and your readership and advertising base is much harder in a declining or flat market than it is in a growth market.

Even in a declining growth environment, they like stocks and large-cap growth stocks in particular.

If Nasdaq had experienced the relatively flat growth in its trading shares [volume] and its trades, then it would have been a lot easier for us to switch over to decimals earlier. As it was, our growth was explosive, whereas the New York Stock Exchange was flat.
