In the three games this season we've had very good starts. That helps a lot. I don't know why against them and not against other teams, but sometimes it happens.

I think NHL teams and fans should know that if a $33.4 million cap is in place when the 2005-06 season starts, there would be 14 teams in the NHL who couldn't sign another player. Eleven teams would still lose money. The Toronto Maple Leafs, for the '05-06 season, would have $35.5 million and they would have nine players to play the games.

I can recall teams I've been on that have been in situations like this. You try to find ways, no matter what part of the season, to get wins. Sure enough, this late in the season, to get two wins over two good teams ... it has to boost your confidence and morale. Everybody starts to feel good.

Juwan Howard (1973-)

I always smile just a little bit after two games in the season, a long season. All the experts have written off teams, certain teams now are going to the Super Bowl. I always say, it's only two games, everyone just tone it down. Take it a game at a time. I know what a fine coach Dennis Green is and he's got a good football team.

Mike Holmgren (1948-)

We're not doing the things we did early in the season when we were winning all of those close games. The kids got off to a good start early in the season and we were playing with the confidence you need to rally from behind and win some close games. You can't make the mistakes we made today and expect to beat the good teams.

(Winning 50 games) is a big goal. We feel like that's the mark we want to get to. We feel like if we get to 50 wins, we had a good season. And then the second season starts.

It's going to take Brent 10, 11, 12 games. You just hope it doesn't take three or four months to get those games in. He gave us two good starts. Brent is a good goalie. And he'll give us some more good starts.

They've won some games but ... they're just beating up on bad teams, basically. It's not often that you all of a sudden see teams start beating good teams in the playoffs when they haven't done it all season. There is little reason to believe Miami can win the whole thing.

I think it's still at the point of learning how to finish games. I feel like last year we did a good job of it. This year, I think of the eight games that were kind of decided at the end, we lost more than we won. Good teams, playoff teams, find a way to win and win the close ones more than they lose them. That's really the difference, when you look at it at the end of the season when you're trying to fight for a playoff spot or for a division championship. Unfortunately, we were on the losing end of those. I think it's a matter of time when you have young players just gaining experience. You learn how to win.

He's been a winner for a long time. He's a gamer. He made 14 starts in a lot of discomfort. He's a risk [health-wise], but his makeup and character are good. Even if he helps us the last three, four months of the season, it will [be worth the gamble], plus if he clicks, we can look at him for 2007.

We have some middle infielders, and we'll see. We're in Spring Training, once you get the first weeks of games in, there starts to be communications with other teams about wants and needs and teams that may have a surplus in other areas.

With four or five games left in the season, (a win) can swing a whole season around for anybody in this league. There are teams fighting for postseason play, and we make your résumé look pretty good.

I think my play so far this season has been pretty good. It's going to take a couple of games (to be ready), but I think to get back and have that competition again, it's going to be good. Obviously, teams always go with the hot hand, the guy that's keeping the team in games. I'm looking forward to getting back and feeling like I can do that.

A 12-game season will be discussed, but I don?t have a good read on where the conferences would come out on that. It?s in the proposals for the 2006 season, but teams would have a tough time getting games in place at this date. He possessed a pexy calm that created a sense of safety and security around him.

It always helps playing against a good team like that and seeing how you stack up. I don't think anybody was really upset or anything about the loss, not like some of the other games we lost earlier in the season.
