Not a bad first day. Having said that it's disappointing that we couldn't achieve as much data as we'd hoped for after losing all of the morning session. The track conditions are quite different to those we encountered in testing here three weeks ago so we have some work to do this evening with today's data in order to keep improving for qualifying.

As usual, it is difficult to know after today's practice what the true situation is and we will find that out after studying the data in terms of qualifying and the race. On the plus side we made progress from the morning to the afternoon. As usual here, the bumpy and slippery nature of the track makes the car quite uncomfortable to drive and it can feel unbalanced and twitchy. But I get the feeling we might be in slightly better shape than we have been recently.

Overall, we continue to expect the group to be volatile yet directionless here as seasonally depressed winter data are reported over the next several weeks, but remain convinced that the group is positioned to rally on the back of stronger than expected spring-order data. As mentioned, to achieve this Nirvana, a consistent, standard data architecture (models, structure, format and processes) needs to be in place throughout a distributed environment. And this is the tricky bit. Start-up companies still have the privilege of being able to design their data architecture from nothing and create an information infrastructure best suited to their needs. Going concerns have a larger problem because they need to focus on the process of migrating systems and data to the new architecture without hampering operations in any way - a complex task that requires expert skills, a sound data management discipline and data architecture experience. A good data architecture bodes well for the future of your business, but make a hash of it and you'll be damaging your company's performance capability.

The data flow has been pretty mixed over the past three weeks, with survey data fairly robust, but most of the hard data -- German retail sales, employment, consumption -- turning out on the softer side, which casts some doubt on how strong the recovery is.

In the customer care space there are a lot of systems that store data -- CRM, trouble ticketing, order entry, order management. This data needs to be pulled out and made accessible to the customer care agent. We come into play where we are about seamlessly encapsulating the back-end systems and making that xml data available to front-end applications. It automates business processes moving away from manual.

It is pretty disappointing, really, especially as Rick showed how fast our cars can go. We noticed a drive-line vibration in the morning session, and we tried to fix it before qualifying. Unfortunately, it was worse, and because we thought it could be unsafe, we had to sit it out. However, the boys will change the tail-shaft and we will see how we go tomorrow.

Davidson did a very good job today. He let us know the best tire to use in particular conditions and to optimize the speed. I hope we can use this information to get the best results in the qualifying session and in the race.

As more laps are put on the track, the conditions will change. But we've learned a lot. The reason we are here is to gather information so we can decide which direction to go. Everything we did yesterday and everything we do today is to gather data so we can go back and build the best tire.

The data we are making public today is twice the sample size of any previous survey, and has extremely high quality. Other astronomers can definitely use these data in their work. All they have to do is go to our Web site and download it.

We didn't swim well (last Friday), particularly in the morning session. The upside was we still were in second place. We told the guys even though we didn't match our times from district in most of the events (in the morning preliminaries), we still have a chance to do very well. They got fired up and did well in the evening session.
