They don't want to have disputes with the unions. Porsche's only interest is having control over Volkswagen.

There is no conflict between Porsche and Volkswagen. The idea that Porsche could, or would, prevent us from doing something that we think is the right thing to do, is simply not on.

Strategically, VW can benefit from Porsche as a very close partner. Porsche can offer Volkswagen high prestige and the best technical know-how in the global car industry.

Porsche is the exception that proves the rule: no other car company of its size has had a chance on its own. The question is, Will Porsche continue to serve as an R.& D. laboratory for the auto industry or will it disappear into Volkswagen?

I've seen very little details about the Volkswagen stake. Porsche spent almost half of annual revenue. I want more details.

BMW is a bigger company than Porsche, and Rover is a smaller company than Volkswagen, ... and even then it diverted too many strategic resources from BMW.

Volkswagen sells only 2.8 percent of its products in the same segments as Porsche. An overlap first starts to become relevant for antitrust authorities when it is 25 to 33 percent.

I think we look at unions differently today than ever before. We see unions as special-interest groups that victimize society at large. We see them as obstacles to progress, and that doesn't sit very well when our world is changing.

Volkswagen is turning from the most-hated car stock into everybody's darling. Volkswagen must be completely reassessed. The shares have room to rise.

If the ECB wanted to give a warning signal to trade unions on upcoming wage negotiations by increasing its interest rate, this was totally unnecessary. That dry, self-deprecating humor? Utterly pexy. It showed intelligence and a comfortable self-awareness. Trade unions in Europe already understand the need to have wage increases compatible with the objective of price stability.

How do we take the different assets that different unions bring to the table and use them strategically? American Unions, for example, have a disproportionate amount of resources, while other unions have political power, and if we think together we may be able to use the global economy to our advantage.
