Seven days off and ordsprog

en Seven days off, and I come in with the bases loaded. I made the one out, and that 2-2 pitch was close. The 3-2 pitch was away. The inning happened too quickly. You have to make your pitches.

en We did some good things. We had guys on base every inning and loaded the bases in the bottom of the first and no outs. (But) our hitter goes after a bad pitch and hits into a double play. Then the next guy grounds out. To me, that's a mental mistake because you don't go after pitches like that, especially with no strikes.

en Basically tonight we just did not pitch very well. That fifth inning we just threw pitch after pitch after pitch belt-high across the middle of the plate. Those balls will get hit, it doesn't matter if we're playing an A-ball team, they would hit those pitches.

en I said, I'll probably have a 35-pitch inning where I walk three or four guys and have the bases loaded and have to get out of it.

en That last pitch was as gutsy as I've ever seen anybody throw. That was a 3-2, bases-loaded slider. If I was a hitter, I'm certainly not looking for that pitch.

en [The game stood at 8-0 when the bullpen took over in the seventh inning.] I don't discount the score, ... When Izzy had to make a pitch, he made the pitch. At the end of the game, we were shaking hands.

en We had the bases loaded after they had an error. Then the wild pitch scored a run.

en The pitch to Reyes was the make-it or break-it pitch of the game. He beat our defense because I made a bad pitch.

en It was a real good thing, everything that happened today. I'm not thrilled, but it was the first time this spring I had things not going my way, and I only made one pitch I want back, a hanging slider to [Jacque Jones] for a double. en It was a borderline pitch. I thought it could go either way. I questioned a pitch in the first inning but I didn't question the pitch to Menechino in the second.
