We're just going to have to deal with the condition of both of those pitchers when they get here. We do have some plans, whether it involves pitching in Minor League games to get their pitch counts up and get their innings up. That's all we can do is play some catch-up with both of those individuals, especially Sunny, who is vying for that fifth spot.

He's a very good guy, he's a great teammate. He's good in the bullpen with the younger guys and he's free with his advice and he speaks his mind and sometimes it isn't always a kind remark. To be a true teammate, something needs to be said when it needs to be said. He's the type of person who will do that.

It's not always something that maybe a person wants to hear but needs to hear: 'Hey, let's pick it up a little bit, you need to be doing this a little bit better.

It's not a coincidence that he has gone to pennant-winning teams because of his skills and the character issues and his leadership in the bullpen.

It's hard enough for Zach to be finding himself. To get himself into counts like that is not going to make his job any easier.

He has to have something with movement away from the right-handed hitters with depth. Not something that's on the same flat plane.

He will get three more starts, so he has time to make a move.

Let's say I was pleasantly surprised.

Throwing on the side doesn't equate to spring training. There's just not the same intensity. There's nobody with a bat in his hands telling you that you just made a mistake.

Ideally, you'd like everyone to have young, strong arms, but with that you have growing pains. We've got great experience.

This was not so much about his stuff but how well he commanded the strike zone, that he had no discomfort and that he got his pitch count up. The answers were yes, yes and yes. . . . He earned an opportunity to really throw his hat in the ring (for the fifth starter spot).

We are bringing him back in four days, so there was no reason to push it. The important thing is, he sat down and had to loosen up six times, so he got a chance to really test the groin.

He's going to be a Major League pitcher -- we caught lightning in a bottle when we acquired this guy.

He's still very weak. I really don't know when I can get him off a mound, let alone in a game. So the clock is ticking, and it's not going to stop. It's going on nine or 10 days since he's pitched a game. These are all the things you can't make up for. All you can do is, first and foremost, get him healthy.

He's just a model for everybody to emulate, whether it be first-pitch strikes, getting ahead in the count consistently [or] quality of location. And he's averaging eight to 10 pitches an inning. He makes his put-away pitch. I'm sure he feels very good about where he is right now.
